Warrant

Warrant for burning a paper at the Cross of Edinburgh by the hands of the Hangman Entituled a Speech in the parliament of Scotland in relation to the presbyterian Government by S:A:B:2

The Lord advocat haveing produced ane paper Entituled a speech in the parliament of Scotland in relation to the presbyterian Government by S:A:B: Sent to his Lordship from London under ane Cover But does not know from whom; And the Samen being fully read In presence of the Lords of hir Majesties privy Councill; And the Saids Lords haveing duely Considered the samen They Ordaine the said paper as false, Scandallous and villanouse to be brunt by the hands of the Comon hangman of the burgh of Edinburgh at the cross of the said burgh upon Wedensday nixt being the Twenty nynth instant betwixt the hours of Eleven and twelue in the forenoon; And Ordaines the Magistrats of Edinburgh to See the Samen effectuat and put to due execution upon the said day as they will be answerable; And Recommends to her Majesties advocat to raise a Lybell at his instance against Sir Alexander Bruce of Broomhall as alledged author therof To Compear within Sixty dayes In respect he is absent furth of this kingdome either to disoun the said paper; or upon his ouning therof to be punished for the Same; And Recommends to the Lord Chancelor to acquaint the Secretaries therof.
