Comittee for visiteing prisones

The Councill recomended to Sir William Lockhart and Sir Patrick Murray to visite the prisones of Edinburgh Canongate and Leith and call for and examine all publict prisoners in these prisones and to report to the Councill at there first meeting in September next The Conditione of such of these prisoners as are propper to be Cognosied by the Councill

Petitione Ninian Mercer prisoner in Edinburgh tolbooth upon suspicion of dissaffectione to the government and spreading news Letters full of false tydeings Craveing Libertie upon baill and Laid asyde untill the petitioner condescend upon the name and designation of the persone who sends him the news Letters sieing he hes acknowledged to the sollicitor that the said persone did Lodge a considerable tyme at his house

Order concerning Ninian Mercer

Petition Ninian Mercer, prisoner in Edinburgh tolbooth upon suspicion of disaffection to the government and spreading news-letters full of false tidings, craving liberty upon bail, and laid aside until the petitioner condescend upon the name and designation of the person who sends him the news-letters, seeing he has acknowledged to the solicitor that the said person did lodge a considerable time at his house.
