Warrand to the Sollicitor for Citeing horse Coupers

The Lords of there Majesties prive Councill doe hereby give order and warrand to there majesties sollicitor Instantly to raise Letters againest the horse Coupers in Edinburgh Glasgow and other places And to cause Cite these persones To Compear befor the Council that they may be Examined and give accompt of what horses they or any of them have Imported and brought from England to this kingdome or bought from such who have Imported the same since the first day of Apryll last by past in the termes of the proclamatione of Councill of the date the thretteint day of Apryll Last and recomends to the Lords Cardross and Beilhaven Sir John Lauder of Hattoun and Sir Archibald Murray of Blackbarrony or any tuo of them to examine the saids horse Coupers and report to the Councill

Warrant to the solicitor for citing horse dealers

The lords of their majesties’ privy council hereby give order and warrant to their majesties’ solicitor instantly to raise letters against the horse dealers in Edinburgh, Glasgow and other places and to cite those persons to appear before the council so that they may be examined and give account of what horses they or any of them have imported and brought from England to this kingdom or bought from such who have imported the same since 1 April last in the terms of the proclamation of council of 13 April last and they recommend to the Lords Cardross and Belhaven, Sir John Lauder of Hatton and Sir Archibald Murray of Blackbarony or any two of them to examine the said horse dealers and report to the council.

Marquis of Douglas to Comand heretors of Lanerk shyre

The Councill Appoints a letter to be written to the Lord Marqueis of Douglas as wes formerly wreitten to the Lord Duke of Hamiltoun Acquanting the Marqueis That the Councill hes appointed him to Command the heretors in Lanerk shyre In place of the Lord Duke of Hamiltoune formerly appointed for that Comand with power to the Marqueis to Name his oune officers.

Marquis of Douglas to command the heritors of Lanarkshire

The council appoints a letter to be written to the [James Douglas], marquis of Douglas as was formerly written to the [James Hamilton], duke of Hamilton, informing the marquis that the council has appointed him to command the heritors in Lanarkshire in place of the lord duke of Hamilton, formerly appointed for that command, with power to the marquis to name his own officers.

Comittee and Liberation Philip Daulx

The Counsell haveing Considered a petitione Given in to them be Philip Daulx prisoner Representing that he haveing been Incarcerat at Carleisle for tuo years since the revolutione and efter tryall being acquytt of all hes receaved his pass and being destitute of means of transportatione for Flanders his Native Countrey with difficulty he hes gott his bread at this place by makeing of periwigs till now that he is Comitted prisoner And therefor craveing that he may be examined and Liberate They Recomended to ane Comittee of there oune Number to call for and examine the petitioner who haveing accordingly mett and examined him upon the Eighteint of Maij instant2 And haveing considered his tuo passes and the declaration of the Ensigne of the toun of Edinburghs guaird who seized him They ordaine the said Philip to be sett at Liberty In regaird they Find nothing proven to be a ground of his further detainment.

Committee and liberation for Philip Daulx

The council having considered a petition given in to them by Philip Daulx, prisoner, representing that he having been incarcerated at Carlisle for two years since the revolution and after trial, being acquitted of all has received his pass, and being destitute of means of transportation to Flanders his native country with difficulty he has got his bread at this place by making of periwigs till now that he is committed prisoner, and therefore craving that he may be examined and liberated. They recommended to a committee of their own number to call for and examine the petitioner, who having accordingly met and examined him upon 18 May instant2 and having considered his two passes and the declaration of the ensign of the town of Edinburgh’s guard who seized him, they ordain the said Philip to be set at liberty in regard that they find nothing proven to be a ground of his further detention.

The Councill ordered that a letter be written to the Commissioners of Supplie in the Shyre of Linlithgow appointing them to randezvouze upon the […] day of Maij2 Instant In respect they have not yet randevouzed as by a letter formerly direct from the Lord Chancellour to them they are requyred to doe And that they make Intimatione of this dyett as by the saids Letters is appointed.

William Murray Imprisoned for false news

The Lord High Chancellour haveing acquanted the Councill that he caused destroy the News Letter by the former post direct to William Murray in the Canongate who keeps a house in the Canongate and sells drink and hes each post a new’s Letter only that the said William might be free of further trouble His Letter being Comonly full of false news And that he hes keept up a News Letter direct to the said William with this post In respect there is a paper therein full of Cyphers which Cannot be read And the said William being Called and Examined by a Comittee of the Councill declares he knows not what persone writts the news Letter to him And that he never wreitts any news from this to London And that he knowes not what the Cyphers in the paper sent in his Letter with this post does signifie The Councill does give order to the macers to carry the said William Murray to the tolbooth of Edinburgh which wes done accordingly And appoints the Magistrats of Edinburgh to Receave and detaine him Closs prisoner therein and suffer none to speak or converse with him untill further order from the Councill And appoints his papers to be seized and searched If any thing can be found therein againest there majestyes or there government.

William Murray imprisoned for false news

The lord high chancellor, having informed the council that he caused destroy the newsletter by the former post directed to William Murray in the Canongate who keeps a house in the Canongate and sells drink and has from each post a newsletter only that the said William might be free of further trouble, his letter being commonly full of false news, and that he has kept up a newsletter directed to the said William with this post in respect that there is a paper therein full of cyphers which cannot be read; and the said William being called and examined by a committee of the council, declares he knows not what person writes the newsletter to him and that he never writes any news from here to London and that he knows not what the cyphers in the paper sent in his letter with this post signify. The council ordered the macers to carry the said William Murray to the tolbooth of Edinburgh, which was done accordingly, and they appoint the magistrates of Edinburgh to receive and detain him as a close prisoner therein and suffer none to speak or converse with him until further order from the council, and they appoint his papers to be seized and searched for anything to be found therein against their majesties or their government.

Warrand Countess of Sieforth to be closs prisoner with the Earle her husband

The Lords of there Majestyes privie Councill doe hereby recomend to and requyre the Earle of Leven Governour of the Castle of Edinburgh and in his absence Give order and warrand to the Comanding officer for the tyme in the said garisone to allow the Countess of Sieforth to have access to speak with the Earle of Sieforth her husband who is presently closs prisoner in the said Castle In presence and audience of one of the officers of the Garisone anent what necessars it will be fitt for her to provyde the Earle with in his Imprisonement And after these necessars are provyded allowes the Countess and2 […] her servant maid and […] servant to the Earle to enter and Continow Closs prisoners with the Earle untill he obtain the benefite of open prisone and not to have access to speak or Converse with any other till that tyme.

Warrant for the countess of Seaforth to be a close prisoner with the earl her husband

The lords of their majesties’ privy council hereby recommend to and require the earl of Leven, governor of the Castle of Edinburgh, and in his absence give order and warrant to the commanding officer for the time in the said garrison, to allow [Frances Herbert], countess of Seaforth to have access to speak with [Kenneth MacKenzie], earl of Seaforth her husband who is presently a close prisoner in the said castle, in presence and audience of one of the officers of the garrison, regarding what necessities it will be fit for her to provide the earl with in his imprisonment, and after those are provided, they allow the countess and […] her servant maid and […] servant to the earl to enter and continue as close prisoners with the earl until he obtains the benefit of open prison, and not to have access to speak or converse with any other till that time.

The lords of their majesties’ privy council hereby give order and warrant to the magistrates of Edinburgh, bailies of the Canongate and keeper of the tolbooth thereof to liberate out of the said tolbooth Patrick Watson, servitor to the late Sir George MacKenzie of Rosehaugh’s wife [Margaret Haliburton] but before his liberation, they appoint him to be examined in presence of and confronted with the said William Gordon of Pencaitland concerning the time at which the [Kenneth MacKenzie], earl of Seaforth came to the said William Gordon’s house and where the earl was before he came to Pencaitland whether at the house of the Shank or at what other place, and they recommend to the Lord Raith, treasurer depute, Sir John Maxwell of Pollock and Sir William Lockhart to examine the said Patrick Watson, two of them being a quorum.
