Act

Reprive To John Weir sentences to death

Anent The Petition given in To the Lords of his majesties privy Councill By John Weir prisoner in the Tolbooth of Edinburgh under the Sentence of Death and to be Executed to morrow being the Twenty First Instant Shewing That their Petitioner Being a youth about Twenty years of age and being only the First tyme guilty of any wicked crime and very Ignorant and unprepared for death and only by the depositiones of the witnesses and verdict found airt and pairt with Thomas Halway in the cryme of counterfeiting his majesties Coyne. And Therfore Humbly Craving their Lordships out of their wonted Clemency and Compassion To Commiserat the caice of their Petitioner, And for the Lords Sake to allow him ane Reprive for some few weeks or such a tyme as their Lordships shall Think fitt That he may be the better prepared for death To the glory of God and the good and advantage of his Immortall Soul according to their Lordships accustomed Clemency and mercy as the said petition Bears. The saids Lords of his majesties privy Councill having Considered this petition given in to them by the above John Weir, They heirby Reprive the Petitioner From the Sentence of death pronunced against him till the second Friday of September next to come being the Eight day of the samen moneth, And ordaines the magistrats of Edinburgh To see the said sentence of death put to Execution against the said petitioner upon the said Eight day of September next to come without furder delay. Sic subscribitur Marchmont Cancellar, Mar. Cassillis. Lothian, Northesk, Seafield. Strathnaver. Jedburgh. Carmichaell. Forbes.
