Recomendatione Mr George Gordowne

Anent the petitione given in to The Lords of his majesties privie Counsell Be Mr George Gordon Shewing That Ther Grace and Lordships petitioner at the desyre of some Countreymen was ingadged to follow the Stwdy of the orientall Langwadges And his wndertakeing haveing bein Comwnicat to the Generall Assemblie Anno J^aj vi^c nyntie four they ordered a collectione to be made throw the Severall presbetries for to help to Defray his expensses But in regwaird the Same was almost in effectwall The Commissione of the Last assemblie takeing to ther consideratione that his expensses of travelling from Wtrecht to, and Stwdieing att Lipsick² Vienna and Severall other places for the Space of two yeirs and upwards was considerable And that upon the credit of the natione he had gott advanced severall Soumes of money which lyes Still over wnpayed finding no other way to gett the Same defrayed they were pleased by ther act of the third of September instant to recomend it sereowselie to the Lords of his Majesties Thesaurie to consider the same And to take Swch effectuall wayes as ther Lordships in ther wisedomes Should think fitt to putt him in a capacitie to discharge the debts he hath contracted upon the accompt foirsaid As the said Act more fullie bears And Seing that his bills for the said expensses are now of a Long tyme Dwe And that he is threatned with dilligence for not payment And that he hath nothing wherby to discharge the Same As alsoe that it is hoped that his wndertakeing to follow the foirsaid Stwdy may prove to the Advantage and good of the nation And that it hes bein his Majesties ther grace And Lordships constant custom to encouradge Learneing and good Literature As the said petitione bears His Majesties high Commissioner and Lords of his majesties privie Counsell haveing considered the aboev petitione given in to them be the said Mr George Gordoun professor of the orientall Langwages They heirby recommend to The Lords Commissioners of his Majesties Thesaurie to consider the petitioners cause And to fall upon some effectuall way for capacitating him to pay the saids debts mentioned in the petitione And to Subsist till some way be fallen upon for his Suteable Setlement in this his native Countrie.
