Recommendatione to His Majesties Commissioner Anent a vessell in the Firth uith ane English Commissione

The Lord High Commissione and Lords of their Majesties privy Councell Being Informed That ther is a vessell uith ane English commissione To be a privateer presently uithin the firth wherof […] Meek is Commander and who searches scotts shipps not only for French goods but even for tobacco or other goods come from the plantationes albeit these goods were Imported some years agoe The saids Lords Doe Heirby Recommend to his Grace his Majesties High Commissioner as Lord High Admirall of Scotland To Call the Commander of the said vessell before his Grace and examine him anent his deportment and the tearmes of his Commissione and to Give such ordors and Commands to the said Commander as his Grace shall find Just That scots vessells may not be searched for Goods coming from the plantationes nor trowbled nor hindered in any ports coming belonging2 to this Kingdome

Act

Liberatione Morisone and Strachan

Anent the Supplicatione Given In to his Majesties High Commissioner and the Lords of privie Councell Be Mr Alexander Morisone and Mr Patrick Strachane prisoners in the tolbooth of the Cannongate Sheuing That the petitioners being in the begining of november last apprehended and Incarcerat in the tolbooth of Aberdeen as alleadged guilty of Having uttered severall undeutifull expressiones against his present Majestie albeit the Informatione given in against them theranent was absolutely Calumnious and calumnious2 And that In the Confidence of their Innocencie they uere most uilling and ready to have subjected themselves to the severest legall tryall For clearing and vindicating their Innocence theranent Notwithstanding wherof The petitioners were In the begining of March last sent prisoners from the tolbooth of Aberdeen to the tolbooth of the Cannongate wher they presently are in a most miserable and starving Conditione Having noe means or estate of their oune wherupon to subsist And seing the petitioners are absolutely Innocent of all that is Informed against them and for which they were Imprisoned And are Hopefull that it uill appear to Convictione upon a legall tryall That they are Innocent as said is And seing In the mean tyme they are reduced to the outmost extremity and poynte of starving And therfore Humbly Craving his Grace and their Lordships to Consider the premisses and Compassionat their Conditione And ordaine them to be sett att Liberty upon sufficient Cautione to appear before their Lordships or Lords of Justiciary att any perremptar dyet or when called or otherwayes to allow them ane Competent dayly aliment And appoynte the same to be punctually payed to them That they who are absolute Innocent as said is may not be starved and forced to perish by the famine in the mean tyme as the said petitione Bears The Saids Lords of their Majesties privie Councell Having Considered this petitione given In to them Be the said Mr Patrick Strachan and Mr Alexander Morisone They Heirby Give ordor and uarrand to the Magistrats of Edinburgh Baillies of the Cannongate and Keeper of their tolbooth To sett the petitioners at Liberty They first suearing and signing the oath off alleadgance and signing the assurance to their Majesties appoynted by Act of parliament In presence of one of the privie Councell
