Petition John Moor provest of Air read And appoints the Clerk of Councill to revise the accompt and act of the toune Councill of Air written on the end therof and to report to the Councill of the same does suficiently instruct that the stipend allowed be the above act of Councill is exhausted and applyed to ends mentioned in the said act of privy Councill.

Act The heritors of the paroch of Carriden.

Anent the petition given in to the Lords of their Majesties privy Councill be the heritors of the parishin of Carriden and Daniall Hamiltone late Chamberland of Grang Shewing That wher the schoolhouse of the said parishin was alltogither ruinous in the year Jaj vjc Eightie seven, The petitioner did for the good of the said parishin give Commission to repair the same, and make it fitt for ane schooll for the education of boyes and another for Laces which being furnished in the same year, The expence therof amounts to betwixt nyne hundred and one thousand pund scots money Wherof in all reason and2 equity the said parishin Ought to releive the petitioners in a Considerable part of the Same; Consisting of Skippers seamen and other substantiall Tradsmen besydes a great many fewers and substantiall husbandmen who have the benefit of the same And Therfore Humbly Suplicating to the effect aftermentioned The Lords of their majesties privy Councill Haveing Considered the above petition given in to them be the heritors of the parish of Carriden and Daniall Hamilton late Chamberland of Grange They heirby Ordaine the heritors parishoners and elders of the said parish to meet and to stent the haill heritors, skipers, seamen, husbandmen, and Tradsmen within the said parish for defraying the expenses of repairing the above shooll not exceiding the soume of One Thousand pounds Scots to be Imposed upon the wholl parish Conforme to their respective proportiones of the saids severall parishoners, And appoints the said soume when3 Imposed to be payed in to […] Steiven presenter at the said parish kirk of Carriden, And Ordaines letters of horning on fiftein dayes to be direct heiron and on the stent roll when the same shall be made up for payment of the particular proportiones Imposed upon the severall persones mentioned in the said roll

Remitt to The Lords Commissioners of thesaurie The Shireff depute of Lanerk

Anent the petition given in to the Lords of ther Majesties privy Councill be John Simervell of Spittall shirreff depute of Lanerk Shewing That Notwithstanding the petitioner has for these severall years bygone been shireff depute of the said shirreffdome and has been put to vast charges and expences in dispatching the publict Concernes of the shyre direct to him by their Majesties advocat or solicitor and in causeing publish the severall proclamationes sent to him for calling out the heritors fenciblemen and Militia a the Crosses of the shyre and paroch Church doors therof, Which are Fourtie one in number besydes Glasgow, And the said shyre being thretie myles of length and in paying the messengers who execute the saids proclamations at the Crosses Lannerk Rutherglen and other places therby appoynted and Lykewayes in apprehending receweing and Transmitting of prisoners Vagabounds, Thives and Gipsies to the Shyre of Edinburgh with guards and apprehending trying and condemning malefactors and procureing executioners from Edinburgh for executeing of them after they were condemned and particularly in apprehending of the Gypsies and carieing of them to the prisone of Lanrick and procureing the said Lords warrand to bring them to Edinburgh and in mantaineing them in prison and causeing transport them to the Limitts of the said shyre on his oun charges in June last As alsoe in apprehending, trying and condemneing Grizell and James Walkers for murder and Insest and Agnes Wood for murder of a Chyld Conforme to ane Comission granted be the saids Lords of the date the Eightein day of September Jaj vjc nyntie And bringing west the executioner from Edinburgh to execute them and sending him back with a guard By all quhich the petitioner has been exposed to more then the Soume of Thrie Thousand merks of expences, And seing that hitherto the petitioner has hade no other allowance for all his paines and expences in the saids affairs Bot meerly the Sentance money belonging to him as Judge And that the expences sustained by him in prosecuteing the forsaid publict concernes amount to so Considerable a soume and with all that they were all done by express Commissiones from the saids Lords or their majesties Solicitor and that the petitioner is now fiting his eque for the shyre And that the saids Lords can most fittly cognose upon the paines and Charges he hade been in prosecuteing the saids Lords their oun Commissiones and modifieing the same and grant warrand for allowing therof to the petitioner And Therfore Humbly Craveing the saids Lords to Recomend to the Lords Commissioners of their majesties thesaurie To allow the petitioner the said soume of thrie thousand merks ar so much therof as the saids Lords should please modifie, in the first end of the soumes that shall be fitted by him in the said eque as the said petition bears The Lords2 of their Majesties privy Councill haveing heard this petition given in to them be the above John Simervel Read in their presence They heirby Recomend to the Lords Commissioners of their Majesties thesaurie To allow the petitioner the above soume or such part therof as they should think fitt in caice it shall be found by their Lordships either by the records or warrands of thesaurie or exchequer, or equies that they have been in use to allow the like to the petitioner or others in his circumstances formerly.

Proclamatione Indicting a Generall assembly

The proclamatione quherof the tenor is after Insert being redd was approven and ordored to be Recorded
William and Mary By the Grace of God King and Queen of Great Brittaine France and Ireland defenders of the faith To our Lyon King at armes and his Brethren Heraulds Macers of our privie Councell pursevants messengers at armes our shirreffs in that part Conjunctllie and severallie specially Constitut Greeting Forasmuch as the reall Good of our poeple both in their Religious and Civill Concerns Is ever and shall be very dear unto us And that ue are Hopefull the meeting of a Generall assembly of the Church of this our antient kingdome may Contribute therto Therfore ue uith advyce of our privie Councell doe appoynte and ordaine a Generall Assembly of the Church of this our antient kingdome To meet and Conveen at Edinburgh the sixth day of December nixt to Come And Requyre and Command all Electiones usuall and necessary for the said Generall Assembly to be dewly and tymouslie made and all persones concerned to attend the said meeting day and place forsaid as they uill be ansuerable Our uill is Hierfore And ue Charge yow strictly and Command That Incontinent these our Letters seen ye pass to the mercat Cross of Edinburgh and whole remanent Crosses of the head burghs of the severall shires and steuartries within this our realme And ther be open proclamatione make Intimatione of the premisses that none may pretend Ignorance And ordaines these presents to be printed Given under our signet at Edinburgh the tuenty seventh day of september and of our reigne the fyfth year l6952 sic subscribitur ut sederunt

Act William Corss and othes anent a ship

Anent the petitione Given In to the Lords of their Majesties privie Councell Be William Corss and pairtners merchants in Glasgow Sheuing That wher ther Is a small vessell of Ten Tuns Cruizing In Clyde The master wherof under a pretence of a Commissione from the Admirality of England for searching after goods from France or from America Enters aboard all shipps Coming out from or Going Into Clyde and takes provisions and what else He finds for him at his pleasure and not only so But threatnes to Carry all the shipps belonging to scotts men Coming from America To be Judged and made prize of by the Admirality of England which is very prejudiciall to trade and to their Majesties Revenues which might be easily prevented if a shipp of Force were Speedily equipped att the charge of the publict for apprehending the said vessell or others and secure the river of Clyde from all such who may disturbs their trade And because ther is noe ship of Force ther belonging to their Majesties The petitioners are Content to Equipp a shipp of their oune of Tuenty Guns now lying in Clyde now ready to Goe to sea and serve uith her tuo or three months tear and weare for nothing which the petitioners Estimat at tuo Hundreth pounds Sterline If their Lordships will be pleased to furnish threttie Land souldiers uith a serjant and threttie seamen uith ane expert Captaine and mate To be payed and victualled by the Thesaury and the shipp to be Commanded by […] Commissionated by his Grace the Duke of Hamiltone Lord High Admirall of Scotland And for making the desyre of the petitioners the more easie to their Lordships They are satisfied to advance money for buying provisiones for the sea and Landmen paying the seamen their Advance wages and defraying all other Charges during the service provyding the Commissioners of the Thesaury uill Give ordors to the Fermers of their Majesties Customes to allow the same to the petitioners In part of the Custome and Excyse of Goods To be Imported by them And if the ship showld be seazed by Enemies during the service or lost any manner of way That their Lordships may ordor the saids Fermers to allow her value and worth in the first end of duty and excyse of goods to be Imported by them And that Commissione for the value of the ship for that effect And because they have not sufficient quantity of Amunitione their Lordships may cause supply what is necessary to the number of six or Eight barrells of pouder and tuo chists of small shott And therfore Humbly craving their Lordships In regaird of the petitioners offer The tear and wear for nothing of their ship To take the premisses to their Consideratione And to take speedie Course against the violence threatned as said Is by the said small vessell or any other wherby the petitioners hes Ground to Hope that not only their oune shipps may be safe But also the Concerns of other merchants may be free from dainger threatned in their oune rivers by any vessells whatsomever as the said petitione Bears The saids Lords of their Majesties privie Councell Having Considered this petitione given In to them Be the said William Corss and partners merchants In Glasgow uith a reference theron to the Lords of the Thesaury and the Lord High Chancellor his Report from the saids Lords They Recommend to his Grace The Duke of Hamiltone Lord High Admirall of Scotland to Grant a Commissione to any persone sufficiently qualified for Commanding as Captaine of the said ship And Recommends to Sir Thomas Livingstoune Commander in cheiff of their Majesties forces uithin this kingdome to Give ordors and Command a serjant uith threttie souldiers to Goe aboard of the said ship And ther to receave and obey the Commands of the said Captaine during their abode in the said shipp And Recommends to Mr Frances Muntgomery and Sir John Maxuell of Pollock to Call for and make use of such skilled persones as they shall think fitt And by them to value and putt ane estimat upon the said ship furniture and tackling upon oath of the saids skilled persones To be Imployed by them And Recommends lykewayes to the saids Mr Frances Muntgomery and Sir John Maxuell to deall uith and Endeavour to bring any other merchants in Glasgow or upon the river of Clyde who may have benefite by the said ship and Commission to Contribute for the expensses and Charge and men aboard of the same To be Reported to the Lords of Thesaury uith their first Conveniency And Recommends to the saids Lords of the Thesaury to ordor six barrells of pouder and tuo chists of Lead to be delyvered to the petitioners upon their recept out of his Majesties stores for the service of the said ship
