Act In favors of the Magistrats of St Andrewes anent Mr Wm Gordon advocat

Anent the pitition given in to the Lords of his Majesties privy Councill be John Earle of Crafurd provest and the rest of the Magistrats of the City of St Andrewes Shewing That wher Mr William Gordon advocat haveing been incarcerat in their prison of St Andrewes at the instance of Sir William Hope and severall others his Creditors hath upon Saturday last late at night Escaped Vi Majori, By binding the Jaylor and takeing from him the keyes of the said prisone and using other acts of violence against him And tho the petitioners have used their outmost dilligence searching for and persueing after him yet the petitioners could have no accompt of him only the petitioners hade ground to suspect That he hade betaken himself to his house and Castle of Balcomy Out of which It would be Impossible for them to dislodge him and bring him back to their said prisone Unless the saids Lords would be pleased to assist the petitioners with some of his majesties forces; And Therfore Humbly Craveing the saids Lords would be pleased not only to grant them warrand to apprehend and bring back the said Mr William Gordon to the said prison wher ever he may be found But also to give a Commission to any officer of his Majesties forces to assist the petitioner with Twentie or so many Souldiers as should be Sufficient for that effect The Lords of his Majesties privy Councill haveing Considered the above petition given in to them be John Earle of Crafurd provest and the rest of the Magistrats of the City of St Andrews They hereby Recommend to Major Generall Ramsay Commander in Chief of his Majesties forces within this kingdom To give due and Competent assistance to the said Magistrats out of his Majesties forces for apprehending and Bringing back the said Mr William Gordon to their prison and executeing their legall dilligence against him.

The Lords of his Majesties privy Councill Doe hereby Recommend to Sir James Stewart his Majesties advocat to give order and Warrand for Secureing of the person of John McCarter brother to Robert McCarter of Aird In the Tolbooth of Edinburgh untill such time as his caice be furder Considered and inquyred in by the Committie anent prest men.

Act In favors of the Facultie of Advocats for a house for a Bibliothick

Anent the Representation given in to the Lords of his Majesties privy Councill by the Magistrats and Town Councill of Edinburgh As also by the facultie of advocats Shewing That The Facultie of Advocats being deprived by the late fire of the Convenience of a Bibliothick Have hade their thoughts That the Same might be Supplied by allowing to them a part of the high parlaiment house and therupon adressed to the magistrats and toune Councill of Edinburgh who heard the matter very favourably But Considering that the place pitcht upon is Immediatly below that part of the parliament house wher the Estates of parliament doe meett and Sitt And which must be under the search and care of the high Constable Both parties have thought fitt to Lay the affair before the saids Lords that they might appoint therin as their Lordships should See cause Conforme to the paper therwith given in As the representation bears The Lords of his Majesties privy Councill Haveing Considered the above Representation by the above Magistrats of Edinburgh and the Facultie of advocats anent a house for a Bibliothick They hereby Allow the place mentioned in the above Representation for ther said Bibliothick to be Imployed for that use The Said place or roume for the said Bibliothick being allwayes Lyable to be veiwed and Searched by the Lord high Constable his deputs and servants as the rest of the parts of his Majesties parliament house are in use to be veiwed or Searched the time of sitting of any parliament

Patent of honor under his Majesties great seall of this kingdom In favors of William Earle of Annandale Makeing Constituteing and creating the said Earle of Annandale Marques of Annandale Earle of Heartfeild Viscount of Annan Lord Johnston of Lochwood Read and ordered to be recorded and delyvered by the Lord high Chancelor to the said Marques of Annandale who received the Samen upon his knee. as use is.
Off the which patent the tenor followes.
