The Lords of their majesties privy Councill Doe heirby give order and warrand to […] Fergusone of Raitloch Livt Governor of the Castle of Dumbarton to deliver out to the deceast Lord Neill Campbell his Lady or any haveing her order, all the household plenishing, Furnitur, and other moveables within the said castle, Which pertained to the said deceast Lord Neill Campbell late governor therof without detention of any part of the same upon any account.

Recomendation to my Lord Chancellor for seizing suspect persones

The Lords of there Majestyes privie Councill Considering that dureing the present exigence of affaires there may be a necessitie suddenly to seize upon particular persones horses or armes when they cannot alwayes meet in Councill for granting particular warrands for that effect Therefore the saids Lords doe hereby recomend to and authorize the Lord High Chancellour to Cause seize upon and apprehend any persones he shall have suspicion of or the horses and armes of such persones as his Lordships shall think fitt and Cause detain the saids persones prisoners untill examined befor the Councill And for the More readie discharge hereof That his Lordship grant all warrands or orders necessarie to any Magistrates or officers of there Majestyes forces Sic Subscribitur Douglas Linlithgow Lothian Leven Stair Cardross William Master of Forbes Patrick Murray

Recommendation to my Lord Chancellor for seizing suspect persons

The lords of their majesties’ privy council considering that during the present exigence of affairs there may be a necessity suddenly to seize upon particular persons, horses or arms when they cannot always meet in council for granting particular warrants for that effect, therefore the said Lords do hereby recommend to and authorize the Lord High Chancellor to cause seize upon and apprehend any persons he shall have suspicion of or the horses and armes of such persons as his lordship shall think fit and cause detain the said persons as prisoners until examined before the council, and for the more ready discharge hereof that his lordship grant all warrants or orders necessary to any magistrates or officers of their majesties’ forces Signed thus: Douglas, Linlithgow, Lothian, Leven, Stair, Cardross, William master of Forbes, Patrick Murray

Orders to wreitt Letters to the Clerks to the Comissioners of supplie anent Calling out the heretors

The Councill Appoints Letters to be sent to the Clerks to the Commissioners of Supplie within the shyres following viz the three Louthians Fyff Kinross Stirling Clackmannan Selkirk Peebles Roxburgh and Berwick Requyreing these Collectors to wreitt to the severall heretors in there respective shyres to meet with the Colonells and Leivetennent Colonells appointed by the Councill to comand them upon the third day after the saids Clerks shall receave these Letters And to putt themselves in order and readienes with there best horses and armes dureing the appearance of so great danger, to come furth upon the first advertisement by particular order or fyreing of Beacons for opposeing ane Invasione which at this tyme may be from France by french or Irish papists And makeing all vigorous defence and resistence againest such enemyes And the Commissioners are to sett up Beacons And appoint persones to attend and fyre them And the saids heretors are to returne accompt to the Councill upon tuesday after there meeting of there diligence and procedure in the said matter and requyreing the saids Clerks to send with all haste Letters to the Magistrates of the burghes Royall within the said shyres acquanting them It is the Councills express Comand that upon advertisement from yow they returne a true and exact accompt of all pouder ball or other amunitione or armes to be sold in there burghes to the Clerks of Councill And that they take speciall care that no pouder ball or other amunitione or arme be sold or vended be any of there burgesses or Inhabitants But these for whom they will be ansuerable Certifyeing the Magistrates that If any armes or amunitione be vended within there burghes to persones evill affected to there Majestyes government They shall be Called to accompt and punished therefore And recomends to the Lords High Chancellour to signe the saids Letters in name of the Councill

Orders to write Letters to the Clerks to the Commissioners of supply concerning Calling out the heritors

The council appoints letters to be sent to the clerks to the commissioners of supply within the shires following viz: the three Lothians, Fife, Kinross, Stirling, Clackmannan, Selkirk, Peebles, Roxburgh and Berwick requiring these collectors to write to the several heritors in their respective shires to meet with the colonels and lieutenant colonels appointed by the council to command them upon the third day after the said clerks shall receive these letters and to put themselves in order and readiness with their best horses and arms during the appearance of so great danger, to come forth upon the first advertisement by particular order or firing of beacons for opposing an invasion which at this time may be from France by French or Irish papists, and making all vigorous defence and resistance against such enemies, and the commissioners are to set up beacons and appoint persons to attend and fire them, and the said heritors are to return accounts to the council upon Tuesday after their meeting of their diligence and procedure in the said matter and requiring the said clerks to send with all haste letters to the magistrates of the burghs royal within the said shires acquainting them It is the council’s express command that upon advertisement from you they return a true and exact account of all powder, ball or other ammunition or arms to be sold in their burghs to the clerks of council, and that they take special care that no powder, ball or other ammunition or arms be sold or vended be any of their burgesses or inhabitants but those for whom they will be answerable certifying the magistrates that if any arms or ammunition be vended within their burghs to persons evilly affected to their majesties’ government they shall be called to account and punished therefore, and recommends to the Lord High Chancellor to sign the said letters in name of the council.
