The Lords of his Majesties privie Councill In prosecution of and obedience to his Majesties Letter directed to them of the date the tuenty third day of Aprile instant Doe heirby take off their sentence of Confynment pronounced by them Against Archibald Cockburn younger of Langtoun wherby he is Confyned uithin the toune of Edinburgh and seven Miles round it And Declares him quyte therof and free to Goe about his affairs as any others of his Majesties Leidges And appointes the Clerks of Councill to delyver up the bond granted by Langtoun and his Cautioner for observing his said Confynment and for Living peacably and appearing when called for dated the third day of June Jaj vic nyntie six years.

Procedure
When the above Recommendation was votting The Earle of Lauderdale desyred to be excused from votting therin In respect that he himself is heir of Lyne to the Last Earle of March who although he uas forefaulted yet when the Late Earle of Lauderdale gott the title of Duke of Lauderdale he was restored to the said title of Earl of March wherupon the Earle did not vote.

Procedure
The viscount of Teviott who in his patent of honour is by his Majestie designed Lord peebles Having represented to the Lords of his Majesties privie Councill That he Is Informed ther is a patent of honour now presently to pass the great seall In favoures of Lord William Douglas as Earle of March wherin he is Informed the said Lord William is Designed Lord Peebles which had been Granted by mistake seing he had the Compleat right to that title by his Majesties Grant so that noe other patent of that title should pass the sealls And therfore desyred that their Lordships would stopp Lord William Douglas his patent from passing the sealls untill his Majestie be acquainted The Lords of his Majesties privie Councill Having Considered the representation and Desyre of the Lord Viscount of Teviott They heirby Recommend to the Lord High Chancelor If such a Gift in favoures of Lord William Douglas wherin he is designed Lord Peebles Shall Come to the Great Seall That his Lordship stop the said gift and not affix the seall therto untill his Majestie be acquainted and his royall orders given theranent.

Right Trustie and right well beloved Councelor Right trustie and Entirely beloved Cousin and Councelor Right trustie and uell Beloved Cousins and Councelors Right trustie and uell beloved Cousins and Councelors And trustie and well beloved Councelors We Greet yow well wheras by a former letter to yow we did require yow to take baille and Confyne Archibald Cockburn of Langtoun younger to our City of Edinburgh and seven mylls about the same And we now understanding that he hath since suorne and signed the oath of alleadgance and assurance It is our will and pleasure And ue heirby authorize and require yow to take off the said Confynment and Baill For doing whereof this shall be your uarrand so we bid yow heartily fareuell Given att our Court at Kensingtoun the 23d day of Aprile 1697 And of our reign the 9th year By his Majesties Command sic subscribitur Tullibardine.

Act
Anent the petition given in to the Lords of his Majesties privie Councill By James Hunter smith in Musleburgh Sheuing That the petitioner all his Lifetyme hath behaved himself honestly and Christianly in his Imployment both at home and abroad uithout the least blott of reproach But some years being Infortunatly appointed to serve in the touer of London under the papists viz Robert and James Ratries (whose deportment since the petitioner Left their service hath sufficiently evidenced what men they were) The saids Ratries while the petitioner uas serving under them being blamed for some things They most unworthily Endeavoured to Load the petitioner And he having abyde his tryall was acquitt and restored to his Imployment But afteruards the petitioner finding that he uas not in safety while he uas amongst them and that another uas designing his place He thought fitt to return to Scotland wher he uas borne And the petitioner hath Lived in the toune of Musleburgh in the very mercat place neer these tuo years bygone uithout the Least offence or hurt to any man And in Jannuary Last The petitioner Having applied for some Imployment in the Mint here He uas told by the master that he Could be admitted to noe Imployment here unles he had a Certificat from the masters of the mint in the touer of his good behaviour ther wherupon the petitioner did wryte to the Masters of the Mint at London for their Certificat ther But some evill persone having given Information against him to his Majesties secretaries that he should be a Clipper or Coyner or guiltie of some evill practices here He is now apprehended and made closs prisoner these severall weeks to the great greiff of his poor wyfe and Numerous family And seing the petitioner is altogither Innocent and nothing Can be Justly charged against him as the masters of the touer at London and the baillies and all his neighbours at Musleburgh will declare And that he is most willing to abyde any tryall their Lordships pleases And in regaird that both the petitioner is Sickly and that his poor wyfe and children have been sick and one of his bairns dead since his Imprisonment And therfore Humblie Craving their Lordships to take the petitioners sadd case to their serious Consideratione And aither to Grant him his Libertie or to putt him to a tryall which he is most willing to undergoe as the said petitione bears The saids Lords of his Majesties privy Councill Having Considered this petitione given in to them by the said James Hunter They heirby allow the petitioner the benefite of open prisone The Magistrats of Edinburgh and Keeper of ther tolbooth being aluayes ansuerable for his safe Custody.
