Proclamation for a solemn nationall fast to be Kept the last Thursday of march next to come
Follows the Proclamation For a Solemn Nationall Fast.
William By the Grace of God King of Great Brittain France and Ireland defender of the faith, To […] macers of our privy Councill messingers at armes, our Sheriffs in that pairt Conjunctly and Severaly Specialy Constitute, Greeting. Forasmuchas, The Generall assembly of this Church in Consideration of the great and heavy Judgements wherwith It hath pleased The Almighty God of late to visit this Kingdom in his Righteousness for our manifold and hainous Sins and provocationes, Hath Thought fitt That a day be sett apairt for Solemn Fasting and Humiliation for the Reasones and Causes mentioned in the act, made thereanent And hath likeways applyed to the Lords of our privy Councill, To have our authority interponed in manner following: Therfore We with advice of the Lords of our privy Councill, Have commanded and heirby Command and appoint the forsaid day of Solemn fasting and Humiliation to be Kept upon the Twenty Eight day of March next to Come Being the last Thursday of the said moneth, in all the Churches of this Kingdom, And That the Same be Religiously and Strictly observed, by all persones as a day of deep Humilation and mourning before God with Serious and unfeigned Confessiones of Sins and Resolution of amendment and Earnest and fervent prayers and Supplications for obtaining his mercy grace and peace as is more fully contained in the forsaid act of the Generall assembly hereto Subjoined, And which act Together with this Proclamation, We heirby ordain To be publictly Read by the ministers in all the Churches, The Lords day Immediatly preceeding the said Thursday, And we doe again Require and Command all ministers and People To be carefull in the observation of the premisses as they will be answerable to God and us, on their highest perill Our Will is Heirfore And we charge yow Strictly and Command That Incontinent thir our letters seen ye pass, To the mercat Cross of Edinburgh, and to the mercat Crosses of the haill head Burghs of the severall Shires and Stewartries within this our ancient Kingdom, and Thereat in our name and authority make publication heirof That none pretend Ignorance, And ordains our Sollicitor, To cause print thir presents as also the act of the Generall assembly thereto annexed and To Transmitt the Same or Coppies thereof to the Sheriffs of the Severall Shires and Stewarts of Stewartries or their Deputs and Clerks, To be by them published att the mercat Crosses of their head Burghs upon Receit therof, And Immediatly Sent to the Severall ministers, to the Effect the same may be Intimate and Read, in their Severall paroch-Churches upon the Lords Immediatly preceeding the said last Thursday of March next to Come.
