Act In favours of the Commissioners of Supply within the Shyre of Edinburgh

Anent The Supplication given in to the Lords of his majesties privy Councill By the Commissioners of Supply and Justices of peace of the sheriffdome of Edinburgh Shewing That where It is ane of the Particular Instructiones in the Petitioners Commission and they have always made it a great pairt of their work, To take notice of and To Cause mend and Repair the Calsays and Bridges within the shyre which they have been assisted and helped to by their Lordships act and Gift to them of a small petty Custome, of six pennies Scots, on ilk Loadit Cairt and Two Pennies Scots on ilk Loaded horse passing the high ways of the Shyre, which albeit it comes but to a small soume per annum yet by the Petitioners manadgement thereof for several years bygone, They have made the high ways and Bridges in some tollerable caice as is well Known to all passengers and some of their Lordships But There are many of the high ways not so well Repaired as might be, and severall of the bridges in hazard to Fall and some new bridges and Calsayes begun but not Completed, which gives occasion to the Petitioners To address their Lordships for a Continuation of the said petty Custom which does Expyre in July next, and hes been hitherto well Employed by the Petitioners order as hes been Instructed before my Lord Lauderdale Conform to their Lordships orders in the last act therwith produced, and which Custom If Continued will make the bridges and high ways of the shyre in good caice, and help to Compleat some litle Bridges and high ways already begun, which are most necessar in severall places of the Shyre, To prevent hazard to his majesties Leidges and for their better, and Safe Passadge. And Therfore Humbly Craveing to the Effect underwritten as the said Petition bears. His Majesties high Commissioner, and the Lords of his Majesties privy Councill having heard and Considered this Petition, given in to them by the Commissioners of Supply and Justice of Peace within the shyre of Edinburgh and act of Councill mentioned, therin, and produced therwith They have Continued and heirby Continues the within petty Customes of Six pennies Scots on the Loaded Cairt and Two Pennies Scots on ilk loaded horse, passing the high ways of the within shyre of Edinburgh, for the space of seven years yett to Runn Commenceing from the First of July Instant Jaj viic years, upon which The Former Tack or act of Councill did run out, and Expyre, And nominates and appointes the Earles of Mar, Lauderdale, Lothian, and Leven, The Viscount of Tarbat, and the Lord Advocat, To be a Committee for Considering how the said Imposition hes been Imployed as to the tyme bygone, and how the samen shall be Employed in tyme Coming, And To Take Care how the Bridges within the said shyre are Repaired, And particularly To Consider how that pairt of the Bridge of Cramond lying within the shyre of Edinburgh, and The Pupblick avenues and high ways leading to the Burgh of Edinburgh may be repaired, and keeped in repair alse well, as any other Bridge within the said shyre, And declares any Three of the forsaid Committee to be a sufficient quorum, And Recomends to them to meet the morrow att ten in the forenoon, And To make their Report to the Councill with their Conveniency.
