Committy Anent Doctor Pitcairne and Captain Bruce

The Lord High Chancellor Having acquainted the Lords of his Majesties privy Councill, That his Lordship Receaved a Letter from the Lord Secretary, Seafield, acquainting him That Doctor Pitcairne att Edinburgh hade written ane undiscreet letter To Doctor Gray at London anent the Address for a Parliament which his Lordship sent to the Lord Chancellor, And That he hade caused Sease upon the said Doctor Pitcairne and upon one Bruce a late Servant to the Duke of Hamilton, who hade Receaved and Sent the Doctors Letter under his Cover, And caused The Clerk of Councill look throw their papers, And The Lord high Chancellor having acquainted the Councill That his Lordship In presence of Severall privy Councellors having called for and Examined the said Doctor Pitcairne and Mr or Captain Bruce and his Lordship and the Rest of the Councellors being unsatisfied with their Answers, They Committed them closs prisoners to the Tolbooth of Edinburgh, Each in a Roum by himself, And The Lord high Chancellor having produced Doctor Pitcairnes Letter to Doctor Gray and the samen being Read in presence of the Councill, Which being considered by the Lords of his Majesties privy Councill They heirby approve of the Committing of the saids Two persones closs prisoners, And ordains them to Continue and Remain Closs prisoners till Furder order of Councill And in the mean time Recomends to the Earle of Leven Lord Advocat, Lord Thesaurer Deput, and The Lord Rankillor to call For, and Examine the said Doctor Pitcairne and Captain Bruce upon Such Interrogators as their Lordships shall think fitt Concerning the said Letter and Subject matter therof, And declares any Three of the said Committee to be a Sufficient quorum, And Recomends to them to meet to morrow at Ten in the forenoon And To make their Report to the Councill with their Conveniency, And in the mean tyme continues them closs prisoners.
