Procedure

Committee Anent Witches in the North Countrey

The Lords of his Majesties privy Councill Having Considered a Report of a Committee of their own number anent Witches in the North, with Margaret Monro and Agnes Warrick their Confessiones, They Find nothing proven against John Glass in Spittell and Mary Kylle in Fermtoish And Therfore Have assolzied and heirby assolzies them from that pairt of the criminall Lyble raised against them and Sentence given thereupon By the Commissioners appointed by the privy Councill, And gives order and warrand to the Magistrats of the Burgh of Fortrose within which the Saids Two persones are prisoners, or the Keepers of their Tolbooth, To Sett them att Liberty furth thereof, For which This Shall be a Sufficient warrant; And ordaines Letters of Horning on Twenty four houres To be direct heiron In form as Effeirs. And The Saids Lords Have Remitted and heirby Remitts To the Lords Advocat, Rankillor and Crossrigg who are the Comittee formerly appointed for considering the Process Led against their Witches, To Consider what arbitrary punishment, may be putt upon Margaret Monro, Mother to the said John Glass in Spittell Agnes Warrick in Killearnane, Christian Geylock in Conleog and Mary Glass in Newtown, And declares the Saids Margaret Monro, and Agnes Warrick free from the punishment or sentence of Death pronunced against them, By the Commissioners Contained in the Commission of Councill, And discharges the same to be putt to Execution And Recomends to the Said Committee, To meet to morrow att Ten in the forenoon, And declares any Two of them to be a Sufficient Quorum.
