Procedure
Committee Anent Printers and Booksellers
The Lord Advocat having Represented to his Grace His Majesties high Commissioner and to the Lords of his Majesties privy Councill, That there are severall Books printed and Sold, which should not be Tolerate, And craved That his Grace and their Lordships would be pleased, to appoint a Committee, without order from whom or their quorum no books may be printed for the future, His Majesties high Commissioner and Lords of his Majesties privy Councill, Doe heirby nominate and appoint, The Earle of Melvill President of privy Councill, The Earles of Erroll and Leven, The Lords Boyle, Advocat, Thesaurer Deput and Justice-Clerk, and Mr Francis Montgomry, To be a Committee for considering what former acts or orders of Councill are already Emitted anent printing or vending of Books, And in Considering what is further necessar to be done anent the same, or what furder orders are necessary to be Emitted thereanent, And to consider what prints are lately Emitted Reflecting upon his Majesty or his Government or any otherways contrair to the former orders of privy Councill with power to the said Committee, To call for such of the printers or Book sellers within this City, And To Examine them upon Such pertinent Interrogators as their Lordships shall Think fitt, with power To Imprison them if they Find Convenient, And appointes the Committee To meet to morrow at nyne of the Cloack in the morning, And To make their Report to the Councill with their First Conveniency, And declares any Three of the above Committee to be a Sufficient quorum.
