Proclamation For a Solemn nationall Fast

Address from the Commissioners of the Late Generall assembly for a Solemn nationall Fast, with the Causes thereof, Read and a Proclamation For keeping the said Fast, upon the Twenty nynth day of august Instant, Being Read was voted approven and Signed, and ordered to be published and Recorded, whereof The tenor follows.
William By the Grace of God King of Great Brittain France and Ireland, Defender of the faith To […] Macers of our privy Councill Messengers att armes, our Sheriffs in that pairt Conjcuntly and Severaly Specialy Constitute Greeting; Forasmuchas The Commission of the Generall assembly of this Church in Consideration of the Judgements of almighty God, already Inflicted and more and more Threatned upon this our Kingdom, For our manifold and hainous Sins and Provocationes still Continued in, and Encreassing, notwithstanding of the forsaids Judgements and our professed Repentances for the Same, Have addressed to the Lords of our privy Councill, That a day be sett a part for Solemn Fasting and Humiliation, for the Reasone and Causes, Contained in their act and addresses thereanent Therfore We with Advice of the Lords of our privy Councill Have Commanded and heirby Command and appoint the Twenty Nynth day of this moneth of August Instant, Being the last Thursday thereof, To be Keeped and observed in all the Churches of this Kingdom, as a day of Solemn Fasting and Humiliation before God, by all persones with Serious and unffeigned Repentance of Sins, and Resolutiones of Amendment, and Earnest and Fervent prayers and Supplicationes for the obtaining of Gods mercy, Grace and peace as it is more fully Contained in the forsaid Act and address of the Commission hereto Subjoyned, And which Together with this Proclamation, we heirby ordain to be publickly read by all Ministers in all Churches The Lords day Immediatly preceeding the said Thursday And we do again Require and Command all ministers and people to be Carefull of the observation of the premises as they will be answerable to God and us on the paines Formerly ordained and Statute against the not due observeing of the like days of fasting. Our will is Heirfore And we Charge yow strictly and Command, That Incontinent these our letters seen, ye pass To the mercat Cross of Edinburgh and Remanent mercat Crosses of the haill head-Burghs of the severall shyres and Stewartries, within this our ancient Kingdom, And Thereat in our name and authority by open proclamation make Intimation of the premises That none pretend Ignorance, And appointes our Solicitor To Transmitt Coppies of this Proclamation and off the above act and address of the Generall assembly to the Clerks of the severall shyres and Stewartries within this Kingdom To be by them Transmitted To the ministers of the severall paroch-Churches, and by these ministers Intimate upon the sabbath day Immediatly preceeding the day appointed for keeping thereof, And ordaines these presents to be printed. Given under our Signet att Edinburgh The Second day of August, and of our Reign the Twelfth year. i700. Sic Subscribitur.
