Act George Reidpeith for2 printing of a book de homino

Anent the petition given in to the His Majesties high Commissioner and3 the Lords of privy Councill be George Ridpeth, Robert Ross and Androw Bell Shewing That the petitioners having been at Considerable trouble and expence in procureing Translateing and printing Sir Thomas Craigs Manuscript de Hominio Which is so much for the honor of the4 natione and fearing that it may be reprinted in Scotland by which the petitioners would be very great Lossers And Therfore humbly Supplicating the saids Lords to the effect aftermentioned, His Majesties high Comissione and Lords of privy Councill Having Considered this petition given in to them the above George Reidpeth Robert Ross and Androw Bell, They heirby ordaine that non doe presume to reprint the above book de hominio within this kingdom for seven years after the date heirof without the License of the petitioners ther airs or assigneyes.

His Majesties high Commissioner having accquanted the Councill That he hade Recomended to the Lord Carmicheall and Mr Francis Montgomry to be present at the roup of the toun of Edinburghs two penies upon the point Which was made upon […] Last Conforme to the act of parliament and that they hade attended and been present accordingly, The Councill approves of the same.

Act For sequestrating and sealling up the Earle of Lauderdales papers

Anent the petition given in to his majesties Commissioner and Lords of privy Councill be Sir John Lauder of Hatton Shewing That the Duke of Lauderdale the petitioners uncle, The Earle his father and the Earle his brother being all dead and the petitioner their apparent air, and not haveing yet time to Deliberat Whither or to whom the petitioner will enter air, And seing their wrytes and the wrytes of their estate may be Imbazled and that is Just they be preserved and that the petitioner have inspectione therof And Therfore humbly Craving The saids Lords would sequestrat the same in the Custody of some discreet persone to give the petitioner inspection therof ad deliberandum as the petition bears His Majesties high Commissioner and Lords of privy Councill Having Considered this petition given in to them be the above Sir John Lauder of Hatton Doe heirby Authorize the Earle of Argyle to send a person from him with his Seall to the house of Thirlstaine castle wher the saids wrytes Lyes, and 2 to put on the said Earle of Argyll and Lord Hatton their Sealls upon the trunks Chists or others within quhilk the saids papers doe Lye and being so sealled ordaines them to be transported to Sir James Ogilvie his Majesties solicitor his Lodgings and sequestrat in the hands of the said Sir James at whose sight and at whose hands allowes the said Lord Hattoune to have inspectione of them to the effect forsaid and if any wrytes be found among them belonging to the Countess Anne Dowager of Lauderdale allowes the samen to be delyvered up to her at sight of the said Sir James.

Esquyre Johnstoune principall secretary of state produced a lyne from the Master of Stair’s the other principall secretary to Him in answer to a lyne He wrott by ordor of the Councill to the master anent the Stamps for the mint house which being read was immediatly taken up by the said Lord Secretary.

The Letter afterinsert being read in presence of the Lords of his majesties privy Councill They ordered the same to be recorded and appoynted the provost to be received a privie Councellor so soon as he should attend and qualifie himself by takeing the oath of alleadgeance and assureance follows the tenor of the Letter Right trusty and right welbeloved Cousin and Councillor Right trusty and intirely2 beloved Cousin and Councillor Right trusty well beloved Cousins and Councillors Right trusty and welbeloved Cousins and Councillors Right trusty and welbeloved Councillors and trusty and welbeloved Councillors We greet you well whereas in Consideratione of the duety and zeall which our good toune of Edinburgh hath showen to us upon all occasions we are resolved as a mark of our Royall favour to the said Toune That the Provosts thereof for the tyme shall for hereafter be 3 members of our privy Councill dureing their being provosts And we being particularly satisfied with the Loyaltie and zeal of our trusty and welbeloved Robert Cheislie the present Provost have thought fitt to add him to the privie Councill of that our ancient Kingdome dureing the tyme of his being provost These are therfore to Authorize and requyre you to admitt and receive you into that our Privy Councill in the ordinary forme and method in the lyke cases accustomed for doeing whereof this shall be your warrant and so we bid you heartily farewell Given at our Court at Kensingtoune the tuenty seventh day of Apryll Jaj vjc nynty and fyve years and of our Reigne the seventh year By his majesties Command sic subscribitur J Johnstoune.
