Recomendatione To The Lord Chancelor to wryte to Colonell Hill anent reducing his regiment

The Lords of his Majesties privie Councell In prosecution of his Majesties Letter Anent Disbanding of the Forces Recommend to the Lord High Chancelor of this Kingdome to wryte by ane express to Colonell Sir John Hill Govenour of Fortwilliam That he reduce the regiment of foot under his Command to the ordinary Number of a Battallion Conforme to the present establishment of this Kingdome And that he allow a weeks pay to them after the Express shall come to his hands.

A letter from his Majestie to the Councell for disbanding the Earle of Tullibairdine and Lord Lindsay ther regiments of foot and Lord Forbes ther regiments of Dragoons and for reducing Colonell Hills regiment of foot to the ordinary number of a battallion Conform to the present establishment of this Kingdome and for Laying up of the frigotts until his Majestie shall have use for them read and ordered to be recorded. Right trustie and right well Beloved Cousine and Councellor Right trustie and Entirely Beloved Cousine and Councellor Right trustie and right well beloved Cousines and Councellors Right trustie and well Beloved Cousines and Councellors Right trustie and well Beloved Councellors And trustie and well beloved Councellors We Greet yow well Whereas we doe think fitt at this tyme to Reforme and disband some of our Forces of that our Kingdome of Scotland It is therfore Our Will and pleasure And we doe heirby authorize and require you to give orders as soon as this Shall Come to your hands for disbanding the tuo Regiments of foot Comanded by the Earle of Tullibardine and the Lord Lindsay And the Regiment of Dragoons Comanded by the Lord Forbess And to reduce the regiment of Foot Commanded by Colonell Hill Into the ordinary Number of a Battallion Conform to the present Establishment of that our Kingdome And since our service does not now require the Keeping up of the Frigotts yow are Lykeuayes to give orders for Laying up the same untill we shall have occasione for them For doing wherof this Shall be your warrand And so we bid yow heartily Farewell Given att our Court at Loo the 8th day of october 1697 And of our Reigne the 9th year By his Majesties Command sic subscribitur Robert Pringle.

After reading his Majesties Letter A proclamation for publishing the peace In the tearms of his Majesties Letter being prepared was read votted approven and signed And appointed to be published the morrow And the Magistrats of Edinburgh to attend at the proclamation in their Gouns and formalities upon a Theatre And Recommended to the provost of Edinburgh to take Care that the ordinary Demonstrations of Joy be observed in the City Folloues the tenor of the proclamation
William By the Grace of god King of great Britaine France and Ireland defender of the faith To our Lyon King at arms; his brethren heraulds Macers of our privie Counsell Messengers at arms our shirreffs in that part Conjunctly and Severally speciallie Constitut Greeting Wheras a peace hath been treated and Concluded att our royall palace of Resuick the tenth day of september Last betuixt us and the French King and the ratifications therof since exchanged In Conformity wherunto We have thought fitt heirby to Command that the same may be published throughout all our dominons And wee Doe heirby declare that all Ships merchandizes and other Moveable goods whatsoever which have been or shall be taken from the subjects of the french King after the tuenty second of September last on the Brittish and North Seas after the tuenty second of october Instant from the said Brittish and North Seas as far as the Cape St Vincent after the nynteenth of November nixt beyond the said Cape St Vincent on this syde of the equinoctiall Lyne as well in the ocean and mediterranian sea as elsewher And Lastly after the tenth of March nixt to Come beyond the said lyne throughout the whole wordle without any exception or distinction of tyme or place and without any forme of proces shall Immediately and without damnage be restored to the ouners according to the said treaty Our Will is herefore And we Charge yow strictly and Command That Incontinent these presents seen ye pass to the mercat Cross of Edinburgh and other places needful And in our name and authority make publication hereof that all may have Intimatione and none pretend ignorance Given under our Signet at Edinburgh the tuenty sixth day of october and of our reigne the Nynth year 1697 sic subscribitur.
