His Majesties Letter for publishing the peace
The following Letter Direct from his Majestie to the privie Councell Being read was ordered to be recorded wherof the tenor folloues
Sic suprascribitur William Rex
Right trustie and right well beloved Cousine and Councelor Right trustie and Entirely beloved Cousine and Councelor Right trustie and right well beloved Cousines and Councelors Right trustie and well beloved Cousines and Councelors Right trustie and right well beloved Councelors And trustie and well beloved Councelors Wee Greet yow well By a former Letter we signified to yow the Conclusion of a peace betuixt us and the French King And ordered a Coppie therof to be transmitted And the Ratifications therof being now exchainged that the same may take effect we doe authorize and require yow to Cause publish it throughout that our Kingdome And that our subjects may the better understand the true Content therof yow are to take nottice that the tyme Limited by the tenth article of the treaty within which any ships taken on aither syde are just prize does Commence from the date of the signature of the treaty at Resuick And therfore whatever ships shall appear to be taken from the subjects of the french King after the expyring of the tyme mentioned in the said tenth article and which is to be Computed as said is from the date of the signature The same are Immediately to be restored As on the other hand our subjects may Justly reclaime any taken from them After the said tyme And this yow are to nottifie to our subjects For doing wherof this shall be your warrand And so we bid yow heartily Farewell Given att our Court at Loo the 8 day of october 1697 And of our reigne the 9th year By his Majesties Command sic subscribitur Robert Pringle.
