Att Edinburgh the seventeenth day of June Jaj vic nyntie seven

Anent the petition given in to the Lords of his Majesties privie Councill By Henry Hue Frenchman guilder That wher the petitioner being Freeman and burges of this Burgh And finding himself of Late Notuithstanding of the charge he hath been at In procuring therof Greatly damnified and prejudged in his Imployment by the Importation of a Great Number of Frames which in a very short tyme will quytt tarnish and fade That at present they have a tollerable gloss and outuard appearance The petitioner Humblie beggs Leave to represent to their Lordships That since he a Stranger that hath practised this Imployment of guilding uithin this Kingdome which in all others is reckoned as a Manufactory their Lordships will not discouradge him so farr in his said airt As to allow a Stranger not having his freedome to vend and sell any such base frames for the future since the petitioner is willing to furnish the Kingdome much better work and at alse easie a rate as any that Can Come from abroad And that their Lordships who are aluayes in use to Grant such priviledges and Immunities to Manufactories as may best tend to its Incouradgement and endurance uould be pleased to Find and declare all necessars and matterialls brought to this Kingdome for the use of the said Airt free of all Custome whatsomever And that in respect of being a Manufactory the petitioner should be also declared free of watching and warding stent annuity poor money and other taxations and burdens already Imposed or that may be herafter Imposed by the Magistrats of this burgh upon the petitioner as his proportionall part therof which priviledge and Immunities being Granted to the petitioner uill Enable him to take home a Number of prentices for the Greater Dispatch of his said Imployment And make that airt in a short tyme universallie Diffused which is now only Lodged in the petitioners persone And he proposes nothing else by all this but a very moderat and small Gaine and advantage to himself And therfore humbly Craving to the effect underwryten as the said petitione Bears The saids Lords of his Majesties privie Councill Having Considered this petition given in to them by the said Henry Hue They doe heirby Erect the petitioners airt and trade of guilding a manufactory And Declares the said manufactory masters servants stocke and matterialls to have all the freedome priviledges and Immunities granted to manufactories Conforme to the Acts of parliament of this Kingdome and acts of privie Councill In all points.
