Warrand for some shires to make up their Levys against 10 of June nixt

The Lords of his Majesties privie Counsell Being Informed by Sir James Steuart his Majesties Advocat That the shires of Lanerk Air Renfrew Drumfreis Wigtoune and the steuartry of Kirkcudbright their full proportion of the Levy of one thousand men appointed to his Majestie by Act of Parliament are not yet delyvered They heirby appoint the Commissioners of supplie for the saids shires and steuartry To make up their full and Compleat proportions of the said Levy and delyver the same to the officers appointed or who shall be appointed to receave the same and that at the toune and burgh of Glasgow upon the tenth day of June next under the penaltie of Tuo hundreth merks scotts for each man who shall not be delyvered To be payed by the persons by whom the men who shall not be Delyvered ought to have been putt out and furnished and that by and attour the furnishing of the saids men

The Lords of his Majesties privie Councell doe heirby appoint their Clerks to fill up the tuentieth day of June next to Come in the Letters to be direct against shirreffs and other magistrats for returning reports anent horses seased from the persons not alloued by Law to Keep horses above ane hundreth merks pryce and for putting seased armes into Garrisons And to fill up the dayes follouing in the Letters to be derect against the Chiftains of Highland Clanns which are to be divyded into three severall Letters In the first which are to be against such as Ly neirest to Edinburgh the third teusday of June next to Come And in the second which are to be against such as Ly in the midle the Last teusday of the said moneth And in the third which are to be against such as Ly furdest from Edinburgh the first teusday of July next to Come

The Follouing Letter from his Majestie to the privie Councell being read was ordered to be recorded wherof the tenor folloues
sic suprascribitur William Rex
Right Trustie and right well Beloved Cousin and Councelor Right trustie and Entirely beloved Cousin and Councelor Right trustie and uell Beloved Cousins and councelors Right trustie and well beloved Councelors And trustie and uell Beloved Councelors we Greet yow uell we have receaved ane account from our Right Trustie and well Beloved Cousin and Councelor John Lord Murray our principall Secretary of State of the Condition of that our kingdome And ue uill take care to doe what is necessary on our pairt for the peace and safety therof We are uell satisfied uith the Association yow have entered into And we Doe think it necessary as we wrote to yow before That all others who associat Doe observe the same form. We have seen the proposalls which yow have made for modelling the Militia And we doe approve of the same and allow yow to dispose of the armes in our magazines in the termes yow propose untill they Can be otheruise provyded The present Circumstances of our affaires doe obleidge us to be further from yow for some tyme And Therfore we Recommend to yow to doe every thing that is necessary for preserving the peace of the Kingdome And particularly that yow forbear heats and animositys amongst yourselves That others may follow your good example And so we bid yow heartily farewell Given att our Court at Queaks the 4th day of May i696 and of our Reigne the Eight year By his Majesties Command sic subscribitur James Ogilvie

The Lord High Chancelor Having acquanted the Lords of his Majesties privie Councell That his Lordship is advertised by a Letter from the principall secretary of state that his Majestie orders The Lord Drumcairn Sir William Bruce and Sir William Sharp closs prisoners in the castle of Edinburgh To have the Libertie of the said Castle And the saids Lords Considering that these three persons are now at Liberty by their allowance They appoint Sir Gilbert Eliot their Clerk to wryte to the Cautioners for the saids three persons signifieing to them that it is the Councells pleasure they present their respective principalls before the privie Councill upon Thursday nixt the tuenty one day of May instant
