Edinburgh the Tenth day of June Jaj vjc nyntie two years

Act Mr Mongo Carnegie

Anent a Petition given in to the Lords of their majesties privy Councill be Mr Mongo Carnegie brother german to Sir David Carnegie of Pittarraw Shewing That wheras the said Lords haveing by act of Councill not only deprived Mr James Lauder of his office of the shireff Clerkship of East Lothian Bot Also did Declair him incapable of all public trust in tyme comeing except as to his remaining Collector for the Shyre and a member of the session of Parliament then sitting, The petitioner after the said office was Declaired vaccant and Mr Lauder incapable of exerceing any other in tyme comeing Did obtaine the forsaid shiref Clerkship from the Earle of Melvill at that tyme their Majesties sole secretary for the kingdom of Scotland, and that about the midle of september Jaj vjc nyntie years since which tyme the petitioner hade been still put of by Mr Lauders fair promisses So that as yet the petitioner has never received the registers and records of the shyre from him which has been very much to his prejudice and Loss And Therfore Humbly Craveing the saids Lords to ordaine Mr James Lauder presently upon Inventar to deliver up the saids Records to the petitioner, That in tyme comeing he might be put to no more trouble, nor sustaine any farder Loss for want of the samen, And that they would Decerne Mr Lauder to pay what expences he hade put the petitioner to, as the said petitione bears. The Lords of their Majesties privy Councill haveing Considered this petition given in to them be the above Mr Mongo Carnegie with another be Mr James Lauder late shireff Clerk of Haddingtoune be way of answer therto, They Ordaine the said Mr James Lauder To give up and deliver to the petitioner upon Inventar and oath, before the sheireff principall of the shyre of Haddingtoune or his depute the haill Records and warrands belonging to the office of shirreff Clerk of the said shyre, And Ordaines letters of horning on fiftein dayes to be direct heiron for that effect.
