Toun of Edinburgh receive thanks for their address

The Lord High Chancellour Haveing acquanted the Councill that Mr Secretarie Johnstoun hes in a letter to his Lordship Signifyed to him That its the Queens pleasure the toun of Edinburgh should have her thanks for the offer made be them of there persones and fortunes and of a regiment for there majestyes service The magistrats and toun councill of Edinburgh were Called for And being brought to the Barr The Lord Chancellour did returne them thanks in the termes above and of the secretaryes Letter whereof he read in there audience the words which related to them

The lord high chancellor, having acquainted the council that Mr Secretary Johnston has in a letter to his lordship signified to him that it is the queen’s pleasure the town of Edinburgh should have her thanks for the offer made by them of their persons and fortunes and of a regiment for their majesties’ service, the magistrates and town council of Edinburgh were called for, and being brought to the bar, the lord chancellor did return them thanks in the terms above and of the secretary’s letter, whereof he read in their audience the words which related to them
