Act ordaining horning againest burghes for not giveing in Lists of seamen

The Lords of there Majesties privie Counsell Considering that by proclamatione of the tuenty nynth of Januarij Last bypast The Magistrats of the severall maritime burghes Royall and other sea touns are ordained to cause beat drums And make Intimatione upon a mercat day for Levyeing seamen to serve in there majestyes fleet within there Jurisdictione and the next adjacent sea tounes exprest in the Letter sent to them and to take on such as voluntarly offer themselves And that the saids magistrats by the said proclamatione are Comanded to give in a report to the Councill of what seamen they so engadge with Lists of all other sea men and fisher men in there Jurisdictione and other sea tounes and bounds exprest in there Letters upon oath againest the dayes mentioned in the said proclamatione And that severall of the these sea tounes and other bounds mentioned in the Letter direct to the burghes Royall have failzied to give in there List to the Magistrats of these burghes to whom they are by the Letters appointed to give in the same And also that the Magistrates of the Burghes Royall To whom Letters are direct for reporting the Lists of seamen for there burghes and the touns and bounds mentioned in there Letters have failzied to report the saids Lists albeit the dayes for reporting thereof be elapsed Therefor the saids Lords requyre and appoint there Majestyes sollicitor and his assistants Instantly to raise Letters of horning at there instances againest the magistrats Bailzies or cheiff persones of the sea touns and other bounds forsaids Contained in the severall missive Letters direct to the Burghes Royall Chargeing them to give in there Lists to the Magistrats of burghes Royall To whom by the Letters they are appointed to give in the same And also Chargeing the Magistrats of these burghes Royall who have not given in there Lists to give in the same to the Clerks of Counsell in the termes of the proclamation and missives betuixt and the Nynteinth day of Apryll next to Come

Act ordaining horning against burghs for not giving in lists of seamen

The lords of their majesties’ privy council considering that by proclamation of the twenty- ninth of January last bypast, the magistrates of the various maritime royal burghs and other sea towns are ordained to cause beat drums and make intimation upon a market day for levying seamen to serve in their majesties’ fleet within their jurisdiction and the next adjacent sea towns expressed in the letter sent to them and to take on such as voluntarily offer themselves, and that the said magistrates by the said proclamation are commanded to give in a report to the council of what seamen they so engage with lists of all other sea men and fisher men in their jurisdiction and other sea towns and bounds expressed in their letters upon oath against the days mentioned in the said proclamation, and that several of the these sea towns and other bounds mentioned in the letter directed to the royal burghs have failed to give in their list to the magistrates of these burghs to whom they are by the letters appointed to give in the same and also that the magistrates of the royal burgh to whom letters are directed for reporting the lists of seamen for their burghs and the towns and bounds mentioned in their letters have failed to report the said lists albeit the days for reporting thereof are elapsed. Therefore the said lords require and appoint their majesties’ solicitor and his assistants instantly to raise letters of horning at their instances against the magistrates, bailies or chief persons of the sea towns and other bounds foresaid contained in the several missive letters directed to the royal burgh, charging them to give in their lists to the magistrates of royal burghs to whom by the letters they are appointed to give in the same , and also charging the magistrates of these royal burghs who have not given in their lists to give in the same to the clerks of council in the terms of the proclamation and missives before the nineteenth day of April next to come.
