Protection for Hamilton of Kilkerscleugh

Anent the petitione Given in to the Lords of there majestyes privie Councill be John Hamilton of Kilkersleugh Shewing That where the petitioner being Cited as a pairty at the Instance of Margaret Hamilton Lady Bangour To Compear befor the saids Lords upon the fyfteint day of November Instant And he being under some diligences for civill debts Cannot safely appear unles the saids Lords grant a protectione to his persone againest Captiones and acts of warding for civill debts And therefore Craveing to the effect underwreitten as the said petitione bears The Saids Lords of there majestyes privie Councill Haveing Considered this petitione Given in to them be the above John Hamilton of Gilkersleugh They hereby Grant personall protection to the petitioner untill the tuenty nynth day of november instant Inclusive And discharges all messengers at armes officers in burgh or Landward To put any Letters of Caption or acts of warding to executione againest the petitioner dureing the space forsaid Excepting alwayes His majesties publict dues sic subscribitur Tweeddale Cancel: Forfar Stair Beilhaven John Lauder William Anstruther Frances Montgomery Archibald Murray William Lockhart.

Protection for Hamilton of Kilkerscleugh

Concerning the petition given in to the lords of their majesties’ privy council by John Hamilton of Kilkersleugh, showing that where the petitioner being cited as a party at the instance of Margaret Hamilton, Lady Bangor to compear before the said lords upon 15 November instant, and he being under some diligences for civil debts cannot safely appear unless the said lords grant a protection to his person against captions and acts of warding for civil debts, and therefore craving to the effect underwritten, as the said petition bears. The said lords of their majesties’ privy council having considered this petition given in to them by the above John Hamilton of Kilkerscleugh, they hereby grant personal protection to the petitioner until 29 November instant inclusive, and discharge all messengers at arms, [and] officers in burgh or landward to put any letters of caption or acts of warding to execution against the petitioner during the space foresaid, excepting always his majesty’s public dues.
