Act

Act Mr Walter McGill for stipend

Concerning the petition given in to the lords of their majesties’ privy council by Mr Walter McGill, minister of the gospel, showing that the petitioner was legally settled at the church of Kilsyth and for many years in the peaceable possession thereof, and did with the first give cheerful and ready obedience to their majesties’ laws and government until the end of the year 1689 [when] the petitioner was contrary to all law and order interrupted upon a lord’s day and debarred from preaching by a number of men armed and most part of them strangers, which occasioned the petitioner the same day to remove from his dwelling house. And the next day thereafter the same persons came with greater force and rifled the petitioner’s house by breaking down and casting out his plenishing and taking away his money and papers to the petitioner’s great loss and damage. And the said petitioner being under no sentence civil or ecclesiastical but on the contrary the present presbytery of Glasgow where the said church lies has given a sample testimonial produced with the said petition bearing that there is no libel nor complaint against the petitioner, and seeing the said church remains still unplanted with any other minister to this very day and that the petitioner is so favourably stated having a special protection from the said lords of privy council and therefore craving to the effect underwritten as the said petition bears. The said lords of their majesties’ privy council having considered this petition given in to them by the above Mr Walter McGill and testificat produced therewith they allow the petitioner the stipend of the above kirk of Kilsyth for the whole crop and year 1691, and ordain him to be readily answered, obeyed, and paid thereof by the heritors, feuers, liferenters, titulars, tacksmen of teinds, tenants, possessors, and others liable in payment of the same. And ordain letters of horning to be directed at his instance against them for that effect upon production of a decreet of locality and of their respective proportions according as the same shall be discerned be the judge ordinary.
