Act

Act heritors of Ecclesgreig for stipend

Concerning the petition given in to the lords of their majesties’ privy council by Sir Thomas Burnet of Leys for himself and on behalf of Robert, viscount of Arbuthnott, the lairds of Lauriston, Conestoun, and heritors of the parish of Ecclesgreig, showing that whereas by the lordships’ sentence [of] the […] day of August 1689, Mr John Laurie, then minister at Ecclesgreig, was laid aside for not praying for their majesties King William and Queen Mary and not reading the proclamation, since which time the church has been still vacant, so that the church and manse are become very ruinous, and seeing the stipend of the said church for the years 1690 and 1691 is still resting and in the heritors’ hands, snd therefore humbly c craving that their lordships would be pleased to grant a gift of the stipend for one of the years foresaid for repairing of the ruined church and manse, the king being patron of the said parish as the said petition bears. The said lords of their majesties’ privy council having considered this petition given in to them by the above heritors of the parish of Ecclesgreig, they allow the stipend of the kirk of Ecclesgreig for the whole crop and year of God 1691 to be employed for repairing of the ruinous kirk and manse of Ecclesgreig, and nominate and appoint […] Thomson servant to the said Sir Thomas Burnet of Leys to be factor for uplifting of the said year’s stipend. And ordain him to be readily answered, obeyed, and paid thereof by the heritors, feuers, liferenters, tacksmen of teinds, tenants, possessors, and others liable in payment of the same. And ordain letters of horning to be directed at his instance against them for that effect upon production of a decreet of locality. And in case there be none, ordain those liable to make payment of their respective proportions thereof according as the same shall be discerned by the judge ordinary, in respect the said factor has found sufficient caution acted in the books of privy council that he shall employ the said year’s stipend upon repairing of the ruinous kirk and manse of Ecclesgreig. And discharge Mr James Melville of Cassingray from troubling or molesting the petitioners and their said factor in uplifting and disposing upon the said year’s stipend.
