Act

Act Lady Machany

Concerning the petition given in to the lords of their majesties’ privy council by Margaret Stewart, Lady Machany, showing that Sir John Drummond of Machany, the petitioner’s husband, being at present prisoner in the castle of Stirling is now and has been of a long time bygone so disordered and distempered in his mind that he is not fit to give any direction concerning his own private affairs, as is evident both by testificats from the commanding officers of that garrison and from Dr Murray, his physician, who has hade occasion frequently to see him. And if he were at liberty the petitioner and his friends will try what remedies would be procured for his recovery, at least his person would be better had a care of then now it can be when he is under restraint. And therefore craving to the effect underwritten as the said petition bears. The said lords of their majesties’ privy council having considered this petition given in to them by the above Margaret Stewart, Lady Machany, with testificats of the laird of Machany his disorder and indisposition of mind mentioned therein and produced therewith, they hereby give order and warrant to the lieutenant-governor of the castle of Stirling, and in his absence to the next commanding officer there, to set at liberty the above Sir John Drummond of Machany forth of the said castle, and to deliver him to Thomas Graham of Balgowan, his brother-in-law, or such as he shall appoint.
