Act

Act for Mr James Cameron for stipend

Concerning the petition given in to the lords of their majesties privy council by Mr James Cameron, minister of Inch in the shire of Galloway, shewing that the petitioner having timeously testified his obedience to the law by reading the proclamation and praying for their sacred majesties King William and Queen Mary, and having actually preached in his church till Whitsun 1689, he was nevertheless (contrary to the said proclamation dated 13 April 1689 and the said lords’ act dated 6 August the same year) most violently thrust from his charge by the armed force of strangers and thereafter the said most honourable council, for reasons best known to their lordships, were pleased to gift to Mr Thomas Milner the half year of 1689 and also recently the last half of 1689 and the whole year 1690 to the heritors of that parish for repairing the church and manse, to which foresaid stipends the petitioner had an undoubted right, but seeing that the foresaid church (whereof the bishop of Galloway was patron) was vacant after Martinmas 1691 and the stipend of that whole year not yet disposed of, and therefore craving that the said lords would be pleased to lay to heart the sad condition of the petitioner and his numerous family who are reduced to extreme want, and to recommend him to the lords commissioners of their majesties’ treasury that he may have the gift of the stipend of the parish of Inch for the whole foresaid year 1691, which as yet is not disposed of, and to appoint to him out of the first end of the vacant stipends which are at their majesties’ disposal some reparation of the loss he has sustained through the want of his stipend for the years 1689 and 1690, to which he had an unquestionable right. The said lords of their majesties’ privy council, having considered this petition given in to them by the above Mr James Cameron, they hereby allow to the petitioner the stipend of the above kirk of Inch in Galloway for the whole crop and year of God 1691 and ordain him to be readily answered, obeyed and paid thereof by the heritors, feuars, wadsetters and others liable in payment of the same, and they ordain letters of horning at his instance against them for that effect, he producing a decreet of locality, and in case there ise none, they ordain those liable to make payment to the petitioner of their respective proportions of the said stipend for 1691 as they shall be discerned by the judge ordinary, in respect the petitioner has given in a bond to the clerks of council subscribed by him, binding and obliging himself that for the future he shall pray for their majesties King William and Queen Mary as king and queen of this realm.
