The Lords of their Majesties privy Councell Having Considered a petitione given in to them Be Uilliam Irvine prisoner uithin the tolbooth of Edinburgh sentenced to death by the Magistrats of Edinburgh for the alleadged slaughter of […] Pattoune Gentleman in their Majesties troop of Guards […]2 Craving their Lordships to mitigat the said sentence and a Repryve for six or seven weeks And in the mean tyme to Recommend him to his Majestie That he may aither Grant him ane pardone or at leist to alter his sentence from death to Banishment They heirby Repryve the petitioner from the sentence of death pronunced against him be the Magistrats of Edinburgh untill the first day of march nixt exclusive And discharges the Magistrats of Edinburgh to putt the said sentence to executione till then And appoyntes Intimatione heirof to be made to the Magistrats

Reprieve for William Irvine

The lords of their majesties’ privy council having considered a petition given in to them by William Irvine, prisoner within the tolbooth of Edinburgh, sentenced to death by the magistrates of Edinburgh for the alleged slaughter of [James] Patton, gentleman in their majesties’ troop of guards […] craving their lordships to mitigate the said sentence and a reprieve for six or seven weeks, and in the meantime to recommend him to his majesty that he may either grant him a pardon, or at least to alter his sentence from death to banishment, they hereby reprieve the petitioner from the sentence of death pronounced against him by the magistrates of Edinburgh until 1 March next exclusive, and discharge the magistrates of Edinburgh to put the said sentence to execution till then, and appoint intimation hereof to be made to the magistrates.
