Anent a Petition given in to the Lords of their Majesties privy Councill be Isobell Angus relict of Charles Thomsone skiper in Leith Sheweth That in the moneth of January Jaj vjc nyntie one the petitioners deceast husband for his affectione to the Present government was seized with his ship and loading by the rebells and made prisoner in the Castle of Dowart in the Isles of Mulle his Cargo was disposed by the rebells and his ship burnt and himself detained prisoner till of late wherby he contracted such ane Indispositione in body that in few dayes after he was liberat, he departed this Lyfe Wherby the petitioner and her numerous familly are redacted to great Powertie and want therby as they are really become the object of Christian Charitie, so they hade in a more specially maner right to the particular care of the government for their sustentatione And Therfore Humbly Craveing the saids Lords would be pleased to Commisserat the petitioners sorrowfull conditione and to allow her and her Childrein to be in some measure provyded with maintinance by a warrand for a voluntar contribution at the Church doors of the Paroch Churches of Edinburgh, Leith, Queensferry, Borrowstouness Prestonpanes, Glassgow, Irving and Air, wherby the saids Lords would doe ane act of most Christian Charity alse weell as of Justice to encourage in any others to hazard for their majesties service as the forsaid petition bears The Lords of their majesties privy Councill haveing Considered this petition given in to them be the above Isobell Angus They heirby allow a voluntar Collection to be made at the kirk doors of all the parish Churches of the City of Edinburgh, Leith Cannogat, west kirk and other subburbs of the said City upon Sabbath the twentie one day of February instant for releive to the petitioner and her fatherles childreen And Recomends to and appoints the ministers of the severall churches within the bounds forsaids to cause intimatione to be made in their Churches of the said voluntar Collectione upon the Sabbath day Imediatly preceding the day above2 appointed for gathering of the same.
