Act

Act Mr John Glen for stipend

Concerning the petition given in to the lords of their majesties’ privy council by Mr John Glen, minister at Stichill, showing that where the petitioner having at the special desire and call of the heritors and elders of the parish of Stichill supplied the vacancy of that church by preaching, visiting the sick and constant attendance upon that parish, and was at considerable pains, trouble, and expenses upon his said attendance, his residence being then at some miles distant from the said parish a considerable time preceding Whitsunday last as appears by the petitioner’s act of admission produced with the said petition, and all which if necessary will be attested by Sir John Pringle of Stichill. And seeing it is just and reasonable that the petitioner should be allowed the current half year’s stipend preceding Whitsunday last 1691 upon the above consideration of his pains and diligence, which wanted nothing of what is incumbent upon a placed minister except the formality of an admission, and in regard the said half year’s stipend is vacant and his majesty patron of the said church, and therefore craving to the effect underwritten as the said petition bears. The said lords of their majesties’ privy council having given in to them by the above Mr John Glen minister at Stichill with the act of admission produced therewith, they allow the petitioner the half year’s stipend abovementioned of the said kirk of Stichill viz From Martinmas 1690 to Whitsunday 1691, and ordain him to be readily answered, obeyed, and paid thereof by heritors, feuers, liferenters, titulars, tacksmen of teinds, tenants, possessors, and others liable in payment of the said half year’s stipend, and ordain letters of horning to be direct at his instance against them for that effect upon production of a decreet of locality. And in case there be no decreet of locality, ordain these liable to make payment of their respective proportions according as the same shall be decerned by the judge ordinary.
