Commission by the Council

Commission to the Governour of Blackness anent Sir Thomas Dalziells servants taken on to be souldiers

The Lords of there Majestyes privie Counsell doe hereby give order and warrand to the Governour of the Castle of Blackness, And in his absence to the next comanding officer there to take tryall what persones are in that castle taken out of the ground of the Lands belonging to Sir Thomas Dalziell of Binns or his sone by Captain Alexander Hamiltone of Grainge And to Call befor them the said Sir Thomas and the said Captain and to examine and take tryall If these men did take on willingly to goe to Flanders as souldiers in there Majestyes service or if they were forced or pressed And appoints the said governour And in his absence the next Comanding officer to report to the Councill who of the forsaids persones they find to have voluntarly engadged in the said service And who of them they find to have been pressed or forced That accordingly the Councill may give order for there Liberatione or delyvering them to the said Captain as there Lordships shall find Just

Commission to the governor of Blackness concerning Sir Thomas Dalyell’s servants taken on to be soldiers

The lords of their majesties’ privy council hereby give order and warrant to the governor of the Castle of Blackness, and in his absence to the next commanding officer there to take trial of what persons are in that castle taken out of the ground of the lands belonging to Sir Thomas Dalyell of Binns or his son by Captain Alexander Hamilton of Grange, and to call before them the said Sir Thomas and the said Captain and to examine and take trial if these men did take on willingly to go to Flanders as soldiers in their majesties’ service or if they were forced or pressed, and they appoint the said governor, and in his absence the next commanding officer, to report to the council who of the foresaid persons they find to have voluntarily engaged in the said service and who of them they find to have been pressed or forced, that accordingly the council may give order for their liberation or delivering them to the said captain as their lordships shall find just.
