Order to the Magistrats of Edinbrugh anent the toun guards, Lodgers, or ministers

The Lords of there Majestyes privie Councill Doe hereby Give order and warrand to the Magistrats of Edinburgh to have tuo Companyes of the Citie trainbands upon guaird each night (Besydes the touns company of Souldiers) untill farder order from the Councill And appoints the magistrats to take speciall care that the Names of the Lodgers in Edinburgh be taken up everie night Conforme to the proclamation of Councill And that the magistrates consider these names And give ane accompt to my Lord Chancellour of such of these persones as are suspect or unknowen at least once everie week And lyke wayes appoints the saids Magistrates to take tryall what ministers aither in Kirks or meetings houses doe not pray for there majestyes King William and Queen Mary on sabbath next in the termes of the Councills last proclamatione and returne accompt thereof to the Councill next week albeit the day in the proclamatione for returneing such accompt be not till the First of Junij next

Order to the Magistrates of Edinburgh concerning the town guards, lodgers, or ministers

The lords of their majesties’ privy council do hereby give order and warrant to the magistrates of Edinburgh to have two companies of the city train-bands upon guard each night (besides the towns company of soldiers) until further order from the council, and appoint the magistrates to take special care that the names of the lodgers in Edinburgh be taken up every night, conforming to the proclamation of council, and that the magistrates consider these names and give an account to my Lord Chancellor of such of these persons as are suspect or unknown at least once every week, and likewise appoint the said magistrates to take trial what ministers either in kirks or meetings houses do not pray for their majesties King William and Queen Mary on the Sabbath next, in the terms of the council’s last proclamation and return an account thereof to the council next week, albeit the day in the proclamation for returning such account be not till the first of June next.
