Orders to wreitt Letters to the Clerks to the Comissioners of supplie anent Calling out the heretors
The Councill Appoints Letters to be sent to the Clerks to the Commissioners of Supplie within the shyres following viz the three Louthians Fyff Kinross Stirling Clackmannan Selkirk Peebles Roxburgh and Berwick Requyreing these Collectors to wreitt to the severall heretors in there respective shyres to meet with the Colonells and Leivetennent Colonells appointed by the Councill to comand them upon the third day after the saids Clerks shall receave these Letters And to putt themselves in order and readienes with there best horses and armes dureing the appearance of so great danger, to come furth upon the first advertisement by particular order or fyreing of Beacons for opposeing ane Invasione which at this tyme may be from France by french or Irish papists And makeing all vigorous defence and resistence againest such enemyes And the Commissioners are to sett up Beacons And appoint persones to attend and fyre them And the saids heretors are to returne accompt to the Councill upon tuesday after there meeting of there diligence and procedure in the said matter and requyreing the saids Clerks to send with all haste Letters to the Magistrates of the burghes Royall within the said shyres acquanting them It is the Councills express Comand that upon advertisement from yow they returne a true and exact accompt of all pouder ball or other amunitione or armes to be sold in there burghes to the Clerks of Councill And that they take speciall care that no pouder ball or other amunitione or arme be sold or vended be any of there burgesses or Inhabitants But these for whom they will be ansuerable Certifyeing the Magistrates that If any armes or amunitione be vended within there burghes to persones evill affected to there Majestyes government They shall be Called to accompt and punished therefore And recomends to the Lords High Chancellour to signe the saids Letters in name of the Councill
