Order to Bailzies and Magistrates where recruitts are to receave them in to there tolbooths

The Lords of there Majestyes privie Councill Considering that the Convoyes who are to accompany the ships appoynted for transporting of souldiers drawen out of the standing forces and garisones for Recruitting there Majesties troops in Flanders are not yet arryved Doe hereby requyre and Comand the Magistrats and Bailzies of the touns and places eftermentioned and the Keepers of there respective tolbooths To receave in to the saids tolbooths the respective Numbers of souldiers for recruitts drawen out of the severall Companyes regiments and garisones efternamed viz The magistrates or Bailzies of Borrowstounnes and Keeper of there tolbooth the number of Fiftie six of these recruitts whereof tuenty four are drawen out of Captain Mckay’s Independent Company and Eight […] out of Colonell Buchans regiment which are all to be delyvered to the officers of the regiments of Scotts guairds in Flanders The magistrates or Bailzies of Musleburgh Haddingtoun and Leith and Keeper of there tolboothes The Number of Tuo Hundred Fourty Four of these recruitts To be proportionally divyded in the saids tolboothes whereof Tuo Hundreth and thretty four drawen out of Sir James Leslies regiment and ten out of Captain Murray his Independent Company And are to be delyvered to Lord George Hamilton or the officers of his regiment in Flanders The Magistrates or Bailzies of the Canongate and Keeper of there tolbooth the number of three score of these recruitts whereof Fourty eight are drawen out of the garisone in the castle of Edinburgh are thretty are drawen out of the garisone in the castle of Stirling And which are to be delyvered to the Earle of Leven or the officers of his regiment in Flanders The magistrates or Bailzies of Burntisland and Kinghorne and Keepers of there tolbooth The Number of Ane Hundreth and Fourty eight of these recruitts To be divyded in these tolboothes whereof Ane Hundreth and ten are drawen out of Colonell Hills regiment Tuenty four out of Leivetennent Colonell Lumsden his Independent Company and Fourtein out of Captain Murray his Independent company And which are all to be delyvered to Colonell Monro or the officers of his regiment in Flanders The magistrates or Bailzies of Queensferrie and Keeper of there tolbooth the Number of thretty six of these recruitts which are drawen out of the castles of Stirling and Dumbartoun And are to be delyvered to the officers of Colonell Grahame his regiment in Flanders The magistrates or Bailzies of Linlithgow the number of Ane Hundreth and thretty four of these recruitts which are drawen out of Colonell Hill his regiment And are to be delyvered to the officers of Collonell D’offerralls regiment in Flanders The magistrates or bailzies of Kirklistoun and Keeper of there tolbooth the number of sixtie eight of these recruitts which are drawen out of Collonell Hills regiment And are to be delyvered to the officers of Colonell Mckay his regiment in Flanders, The magistrates or Bailzies of Kirkaldie and Dysert and Keepers of there tolbooth the number of Ane Hundreth and Fyfteen of these recruitts (2to be divyded betuixt the saids tolboothes which are drawen out of Collonell Buchan his regiment And are to be delyvered to the officers of the said Collonell Mckay his regiment in Flanders The magistrates or Bailzies of Dumfermling and Innerkeithing and Keepers of there tolbooths the number of Four score thretteen of these recruitts to be divyded betuixt the saids tolboothes which are drawen out of Colonell Buchan his regiment and are to be delyvered to the officers of Colonell Lauder his regiment in Flanders And appoints the recruitts at Linlithgow to be Lodged and Keeped in the tuo Laigh roumes upon each syde of the stair of the tounhouse or tolbooth of Linlithgow And appoints the magistrates and bailzies of the saids touns forsaids and Keepers of there tolboothes to suffer the saids recruitts to remaine in there tolboothes untill farder order of Councill or that the officers who are come over from Flanders to whom these recruitts are to be delyvered shall remove them from the saids tolbooths And in the mean tyme ordaines the Magistrates or Bailzies respective forsaids to furnish blankets to the saids recruitts to Lye upon while they remaine in the saids tolboothes And ordaines the officers come from Flanders to whom these recruitts are to be delyvered to Find sufficient Cautione to the satisfaction of the saids magistrates or bailzies of the respective places forsaids That they shall make payment to the saids magistrates or Bailzies of a rix dollar for each pair of the saids blanketts being a double pair which shall not be restored back in good case as said is And ordaines the officers who have brought the saids recruitts from the garisones regiments and Companyes out of which they are drawen to be readie upon wednesday next to delyver them and the officers now come from Flanders to be readie upon wedinsday next to delyver them and the officers now come from Flanders to be readie at the said tyme and at the respective place forsaids to receave them as all and aither of these officers will be ansuerable

Order to bailies and magistrates where recruits are to receive them into their tolbooths

The lords of their majesties’ privy council, considering that the convoys who are to accompany the ships appointed for transporting of soldiers drawn out of the standing forces and garrisons for recruiting their majesties’ troops in Flanders have not yet arrived, hereby require and command the magistrates and bailies of the towns and places after mentioned and the keepers of their respective tolbooths to receive into the said tolbooths the respective numbers of soldiers for recruits drawn out of the various companies, regiments and garrisons after named, viz: The magistrates or bailies of Bo’ness and keeper of their tolbooth, the number of 56 of those recruits, whereof 24 are drawn out of Captain McKay’s independent company and eight […] out of Colonel Buchan’s regiment, who are all to be delivered to the officers of the regiments of Scots guards in Flanders; the magistrates or bailies of Musselburgh, Haddington and Leith and keeper of their tolbooths, the number of 244 of these recruits to be proportionally divided in the said tolbooths, whereof 234 drawn out of Sir James Leslie’s regiment and ten out of Captain Murray’s independent company, and are to be delivered to Lord George Hamilton or the officers of his regiment in Flanders; the magistrates or bailies of the Canongate and keeper of their tolbooth, the number of 602 of these recruits, whereof 48 are drawn out of the garrison in the castle of Edinburgh and 30 are drawn out of the garrison in the castle of Stirling and which are to be delivered to the earl of Leven or the officers of his regiment in Flanders; the magistrates or bailies of Burntisland and Kinghorn and keepers of their tolbooth, the Number of 148 of these recruits, to be divided in their tolbooths, whereof 110 are drawn out of Colonel Hill’s regiment, 24 out of Lieutenant Colonel Lumsden’s independent company and 14 out of Captain Murray’s independent company, and which are all to be delivered to Colonel Munro or the officers of his regiment in Flanders; the magistrates or bailies of Queensferry and keeper of their tolbooth, the number of 36 of these recruits, who are drawn out of the castles of Stirling and Dumbarton, and are to be delivered to the officers of Colonel Grahame’s regiment in Flanders; the magistrates or bailies of Linlithgow, the number of 134 four of these recruits, who are drawn out of Colonel Hill’s regiment and are to be delivered to the officers of Colonel O’Farrell’s regiment in Flanders; the magistrates or bailies of Kirkliston and keeper of their tolbooth, the number of 68 of these recruits, who are drawn out of Colonel Hill’s regiment, and are to be delivered to the officers of Colonel McKay’s regiment in Flanders; the magistrates or bailies of Kirkcaldy and Dysart and keepers of their tolbooth, the number of 115 of these recruits, to be divided between the said tolbooths, who are drawn out of Colonel Buchan’s regiment, and are to be delivered to the officers of the said Colonel McKay’s regiment in Flanders; the magistrates or bailies of Dunfermline and Inverkeithing and keepers of their tolbooths, the number of 93 of these recruits, to be divided between the said tolbooths, who are drawn out of Colonel Buchan’s regiment and are to be delivered to the officers of Colonel Lauder’s regiment in Flanders; and they appoint the recruits at Linlithgow to be lodged and kept in the two low rooms on each side of the stair of the townhouse or tolbooth of Linlithgow, and appoint the magistrates and bailies of the said towns, and keepers of their tolbooths to allow the said recruits to remain in their tolbooths until further order of council or the officers who have come over from Flanders to whom these recruits are to be delivered shall remove them from the said tolbooths; and in the mean time they ordain the magistrates or bailies foresaid to furnish blankets to the said recruits to lie upon while they remain in the said tolbooths; and they ordain the officers come from Flanders to whom these recruits are to be delivered to find sufficient caution to the satisfaction of the said magistrates or bailies of the respective places foresaid that they shall make payment to the said magistrates or bailies of a rix dollar for each pair of the said blankets being a double pair which shall not be restored back in good condition; and they ordain the officers who have brought the said recruits from the garrisons, regiments and companies out of which they are drawn to be ready upon Wednesday next to deliver them, and the officers now come from Flanders to be ready upon Wednesday next to deliver them and the officers now come from Flanders to be ready at the said time and at the places foresaid to receive them as all and any of these officers will be answerable.
