Order to the magistrats of Edinburgh anent ministers

The Councill Being Informed that some of the ministers who by sentence of Councill are banished the burgh of Edinburgh and suburbs thereof have without warrand of Councill returned within the same And that there are some ministers who preach in meeting houses or private places within the said burgh and suburbs and yet doe not pray for there Majesties King William and Queen Mary as King and Queen of this Realme Conforme to the proclamatione of Councill appointing all ministers to doe the same And that some of these ministers doe not observe the dayes of publict humiliatione and thanksgiving appoynted by authority There Lordships Called for the magistrats of Edinburgh who haveing appeared at the barr The Lord High Chancellour In name and at the Councill Did make Intimatione hereof to the saids Magistrats and appointed them to search for, apprehend and Comitt to prisone such ministers as being banished the said toun of Edinburgh and suburbs doe returne thereto, without the Councills warrand And Lykewayes to make exact search and tryall what ministers preaching in meeting houses or private places within the said burgh or suburbs doe not pray for there majestyes Conforme to the said proclamation or doe not observe the saids dayes of publict humilatione and thanksgiving And appoints them to returne to the Clerks of Councill betuixt and tuesday next Lists subscryved be them of such banished ministers as they shall seize upon and also of the ministers not prayeing for there majestyes or not observing the dayes Humiliatione and thanksgiveing

Order to the magistrates of Edinburgh concerning ministers

The council being informed that some of the ministers who by sentence of council are banished [from] the burgh of Edinburgh and suburbs thereof have without warrant of council returned within the same, and that there are some ministers who preach in meeting houses or private places within the said burgh and suburbs and yet do not pray for their majesties King William and Queen Mary as king and queen of this realm conform to the proclamation of council appointing all ministers to do the same, and that some of these ministers do not observe the days of public humiliation and thanksgiving appointed by authority. Their lordships called for the magistrates of Edinburgh, who having appeared at the bar, the lord high chancellor in name and at the council did make intimation hereof to the said magistrates and appointed them to search for, apprehend, and commit to prison such ministers as being banished [from] the said town of Edinburgh and suburbs do return thereto, without the council’s warrant. And likewise to make exact search and trial what ministers preaching in meeting houses or private places within the said burgh or suburbs do not pray for their majesties conform to the said proclamation, or do not observe the said days of public humiliation and thanksgiving. And appoint them to return to the clerks of council between [now] and Tuesday next lists subscribed by them of such banished ministers as they shall seize, upon and also of the ministers not praying for their majesties or not observing the days [of] humiliation and thanksgiving.
