Procedure

The Earle of Melvill receaved a Counsellor

There Majesties Commission under there great seall of this Kingdome in favours of George Earle of Melvill to be Lord Keeper of there Majestyes prive seall read and appointed to be recorded And the Earle of Leven And haveing receaved the said Commission upon his knee’s, and the Earle of Melvill being called in who by the Late Comission of Councill is nominat one of there majesties privie Councill And haveing sworne and signed the oath of alleadgeance and signed the assureance The Lord Chancellour did take his Lordships oath de fideli And followes the tenor of the Earle of Melvill’s Comissione to be Lord privie seall.

The Earl of Melville received as a councillor

Their majesties’ commission under the great seal of this kingdom in favour of George [Melville] earl of Melville to be lord keeper of their majesties’ privy seal was read and appointed to be recorded and the Earl of Leven having received the said commission upon his knees, and the earl of Melville being called in, who by the late commission of council is nominated as one of their majesties’ privy council, and having sworn and signed the oath of allegiance and signed the assurance, the lord chancellor took his lordship’s oath de fideli, and follows the tenor of the earl of Melville’s commission to be lord privy seal.
