Procedure

second nomination of a Comittee for putting the Countrey in a posture of defence

The Lords of there Majestyes privie Councill In place of the persones formerly named Doe hereby Nominate and appoint the persones following viz The Earles of Linlithgow and Louthian The Lord Viscount Stair, Lord Raith theasurer deput The Lords Cardross Carmichaell and Polwarth and the Lord Fountainhall To be a Comittee for Considering how the Countrey may be put in a posture of defence and how the same may be secured and provyded for againest any Invasione from abroad And if it be fitt that the officers who shall be Imployed on that occasione should take the oath of alleadgeance and assureance And if it be fitt that persones suspected to be ill affected to the government should have there horses and armes seized upon and whom they think fitt should be so used And what they think the fittest means to be followed for seizeing effectually the saids horses and armes

The lords of their majesties’ privy council, in place of the persons formerly named, hereby nominate and appoint the persons following, viz: the earls of Linlithgow and Lothian, Viscount Stair, Lord Raith, treasurer deput, the Lords Cardross, Carmichaell and Polwarth, and the Lord Fountainhall to be a committee for considering how the country may be put in a posture of defence and how the same may be secured and provided for against any invasion from abroad, and if it be fit that the officers who shall be employed on that occasion should take the oath of allegiance and assurance, and if it be fit that persons suspected to be ill-affected to the government should have their horses and arms seized upon and whom they think fit should be so used and what they think the fittest means to be followed for seizing the said horses and arms effectively.
