Comittee anent the minister of South Leith

The Lords of there majestyes privie Councill haveing heard a petitione given in to them be the heretors elders Kirk sessione maisters of familyes and Inhabitants of South Leith adhereing to Mr William Gray2 with ane other petitione given in to them be the magistrats Kirk sessione and heretors of the said paroch adhereing to Mr William Wishart read in there presence They allowed the advocatts for aither pairty to be heard to debate befor there Lordships upon the subject matter of both petitiones And Sir David Thoirs Sir Robert Colt and Mr William Monepiennie advocats Compearing for the Ingivers of the first petitione And James Stewart senior advocat Compearing for the Ingivers of the other petitione And both pairties advocatts being fully heard The saids Lords of privie Council haveing heard both petitions with the debate made by both parties advocatts They hereby recomend to the Comittee formerly appointed in this matter viz The Earle of Louthian The Viscounts of Tarbatt and Stair The Lord Carmichaell and Laird of Blackbarronie and to the Lord Enstruther and Sir Robert Sinclair of Steivinstoun whom the saids Lords Adds to the said former Comittee To Call for and meet with the moderator of the presbitry of Edinburgh And to know from whom when and where the said presbitrie is to meet And by the said Moderator or any tuo of there oune number to recomend to the said presbitry to forbear the placeing any minister in the said kirk of South Leith untill the Morrow eight dayes, And declares any three of the forenamed persones to be a sufficient quorum.

Committee concerning the minister of South Leith

The lords of their majesties’ privy council having heard a petition given in to them by the heritors, elders, kirk session, masters of families and inhabitants of South Leith adhering to Mr William Gray with another petition given in to them by the magistrates, kirk session and heritors of the said parish adhering to Mr William Wishart read in their presence they allowed the advocates for either party to be heard to debate before their lordships upon the subject matter of both petitions, and Sir David Thoirs, Sir Robert Colt and Mr William Moneypenny advocates compearing for the in-givers of the first petition and James Stewart senior, advocate, compearing for the in-givers of the other petition, and both parties advocates being fully heard, the said lords of privy council having heard both petitions with the debate made by both parties advocates they hereby recommend to the committee formerly appointed in this matter, namely the earl of Lothian, the viscounts of Tarbat and Stair, the Lord Carmichael and laird of Blackbarony, and to the Lord Anstruther and Sir Robert Sinclair of Stevenson whom the said lords adds to the said former committee, to call for and meet with the moderator of the presbytery of Edinburgh, and to know from whom, when and where the said presbytery is to meet and by the said moderator or any two of their own number to recommend to the said presbytery to forbear the placing any minister in the said kirk of South Leith until the morrow eight days, and declares any three of the forenamed persones to be a sufficient quorum.
