Comittee anent the Forces and for putting the Countrey in a posture of defence and provisiones to the Castles etc and ane proclamatione against ministers

The Lords of there Majestyes privie Councill Doe hereby Recomend to the Lord Marqueiss of Douglas The Earles of Linlythgow and Louthian The Lord Viscount Stair, The Lord Cardross and Sir Patrick Murray To meet with Sir James Leslie Commander in cheiff for the tyme of there majestyes forces within this Kingdome And to consider how the standing forces within this Kingdome may be most conveniently posted for secureity of the Natione In case any sudden Invasione should happen And how the countrey may be putt in a posture of defence againest the same And that they acquant the said Sir James That he cause all the officers of the forces repair to and attend upon there respective charges and posts And that he give orders for that effect And that the said Comittee Call befor them Leivetennent Collonell Erskine Governour of the Castle of Stirling […] Ensigne of the castell of Dumbartoun and any of the officers of the castle of Edinburgh (2the Earle of Leven governour thereof not being upon the place and to take tryall what stores and provisiones are in these castles And what further they stand in nead of And Recomends to the said Comittee to prepare a draught of a proclamatione Requyreing the Shirreffs of shyres and magistrats of burghes to take tryall what ministers are in there bounds who at any tyme pray for the late King James or who doe not ordinarily in distinct and Intelligible termes pray for there present majestyes King William and Queen Mary And for that effect that they examine such persones as can give best Informatione herein and transmitt the names of the saids ministers to the Clerks of privie Councill That they may be proceeded against and punished according to Law And recomends to the said Comittee to make there report to the Councill at there next meeting And declares any three of them to be a quorum

The lords of their majesties’ privy council do hereby recommend to the lord marquis of Douglas, the earls of Linlithgow and Lothian, the lord Viscount Stair, the Lord Cardross and Sir Patrick Murray To meet with Sir James Leslie, commander-in-chief for the time of their majesties’ forces within this kingdom, and to consider how the standing forces within this kingdom may be most conveniently posted for security of the nation in case any sudden invasion should happen, and how the country may be put in a posture of defence against the same, and that they acquant the said Sir James that he cause all the officers of the forces repair to and attend upon their respective charges and posts, and that he give orders for that effect, and that the said committee call before them Lieutenant Colonel Erskine, governor of the castle of Stirling, […] ensign of the castle of Dumbarton, and any of the officers of the castle of Edinburgh, the earl of Leven, governor thereof, not being upon the place, and to take trial what stores and provisions are in these castles, and what further they stand in need of and recommend to the said committee to prepare a draft of a proclamation requiring the sherrifs of shires and magistrates of burghs to take trial what ministers are in there bounds who at any time pray for the late King James, or who do not ordinarily in distinct and intelligible terms pray for their present majesties King William and Queen Mary, and for that effect that they examine such persons as can give best information herein and transmit the names of the said ministers to the clerks of privy council that they may be proceeded against and punished according to law, and recommend to the said committee to make their report to the council at their next meeting, and declares any three of them to be a quorum.
