Report of Comittee anent Earl of Sieforth

The Comittee appointed for examining the Earle of Sieforth and his servants reported that they could discover nothing of Import by there Examinationes And haveing examined William Gordone of Pencaitland In whose house the Earle wes when seized again he declared the Earle came not to his house whill tuesday last about three of the Cloack in the morning And that the Countess hade wreitten to the Earle Telling him If he hade not made his escape he would have been putt in the boots And that Patrick Watson who came to the Earle at William Gordons house declares the Earle went there the first night after he escaped from his oune house.

Report of the committee concerning the earl of Seaforth

The committee appointed for examining [Kenneth MacKenzie], earl of Seaforth and his servants reported that they could discover nothing of import by their examinations, and having examined William Gordon of Pencaitland in whose house the earl was when seized again, he declared that the earl came not to his house until Tuesday last about 3 o’clock in the morning and that [Frances Herbert], the countess had written to the earl telling him if he had not made his escape he would have been put in the boots, and that Patrick Watson who came to the earl at William Gordon’s house declares the earl went there the first night after he escaped from his own house.
