Report of the Comittee anent the militia

The Comittee anent the Militia haveing mett Gave in there opinion [a]nd the termes following viz That it is there opinione that the half of the foot militia being to be now Called out The regiments are to be now put out be the shyres according to the proportiones following viz By the shyre of Selkirk and Roxburgh Six Hundred sixtie seven men And by the shyre of Peebles Ane Hundred and thretty three men Inde Eight Hundred men to be in one regiment By Haddingtoun Four Hundred men to be in one regiment By the shyre of Linlithgow Ane Hundreth sixtie seven men and the shyres of Stirling and Clackmannan Three Hundred and threttie three men Inde fyve Hundred to be in one regiment By the burgh of Edinburgh Leith and Canongate Four Hundred men to be in one regiment By the shyre of Drumfreiss Four Hundreth men to be in one regiment By the shyre of Wigtoun and Stewartrie of Kirkcudbright Four Hundreth men in one regiment By the shyres of Air and Renfrew Six Hundreth and sixtie six men to be in one regiment By the shyre of Lanerk Fyve Hundreth men to be in one regiment By the shyres of Fyff and Kinross Eight Hundreth men to be in tuo regiments By the shyre of Pearth Eight Hundreth men to be in tuo regiments By the shyre of Forfar Fyve Hundreth men to be in one regiment By the shyre of Kincairden and marischalls pairts of Aberdeen Four Hundreth men to be in one regiment By the rest of Aberdein and Banff shyre Fyve Hundreth and threttie three men to be in one regiment By the shyres of Elgin, Nairne, and this syde of Ness Fyve Hundreth men in one regiment By the Earle of Seaforths and Lord Lovatts divisione of2 Innerness Three Hundred and thretty three men to be in one regiment By the shyres of Sutherland Caithness and the rest of Innerness Fyve Hundreth threttie three men in one regiment By the shyres of Argijll Dumbartoun and Bute Four Hundreth men in one regiment By the stewartry of Orknay Three Hundred and Threttie three men to be in one regiment The Lords of there majestyes privie Councill Haveing this day considered the above report approves thereof and appoints every Company now when the half of the foot militia is to come out To Consist of Fifty Centinells besydes the haill officers at Least to be alse near to that Number of Centinells as is consistent with the totall of each regiment which is to be divyded in Eight Companyes

Report of the committee concerning the militia

The committee concerning the militia, having met, gave in their opinion and the terms following, viz: That it is their opinion that half of the foot militia to be now called out, the regiments are to be now put out by the shires according to the proportions following viz: By the shire of Selkirk and Roxburgh 667 men; and by the shire of Peebles 133 men, making 800 men to be in one regiment; by Haddington 400 men to be in one regiment; by the shire of Linlithgow 167 men, and the shires of Stirling and Clackmannan 333 men, making 500 to be in one regiment; by the burgh of Edinburgh, Leith and Canongate 400 men to be in one regiment; by the shire of Dumfries 400 men to be in one regiment; by the shire of Wigtown and stewartry of Kirkcudbright 400 men in one regiment; by the shires of Ayr and Renfrew 666 men to be in one regiment; by the shire of Lanark 500 men to be in one regiment; by the shires of Fife and Kinross 800 men to be in two regiments; by the shire of Perth 800 men to be in two regiments; by the shire of Forfar 500 men to be in one regiment; by the shire of Kincardine and the earl Marischal’s parts of Aberdeen 400 men to be in one regiment; by the rest of Aberdeen and Banff shire 533 men to be in one regiment; by the shires of Elgin, Nairn, and this side of Ness 500 men in one regiment; by the earl of Seaforth’s and Lord Lovat’s division of Inverness 333 men to be in one regiment; by the shires of Sutherland, Caithness and the rest of Inverness 533 men in one regiment; by the shires of Argyll, Dumbarton and Bute 400 men in one regiment; by the stewartry of Orkney 333 men to be in one regiment. The lords of their majesties’ privy council having this day considered the above report approves thereof and appoints every company now when half of the foot militia is to come out to consist of 50 sentinels besides the whole officers at least to be as near to that number of sentinels as is consistent with the total of each regiment which is to be divided in eight companies.
