Warrand to the magistrats of Edinburgh to seize sturdy beggers to be souldiers

The Lords of their Majesties privie Councell Doe heirby authorize and Requyre the Magistrats of Edinburgh Cannongate Leith and haill suburbs of the samen To seize upon and Committ to prisone all sturdie Beggers idle vagabounds and vagrant persones who cannot give a rationall account of the places of their Constant residence and way and manner of their Living and how they are mantained and to transmitt their names to the Clarks of Councell from tyme to tyme as they shall apprehend the forsaids persones To be by the saids Clarks presented to the saids Lords of privie Councell That their Lordships may Give ordor for delivering such of the saids persones as they shall think fitt to such officers who are presently Levying souldiers for their Majesties service in Flanders as they shall appoynte To be by the saids officers transported to Flanders for their Majesties service

Warrant to the magistrates of Edinburgh to seize sturdy beggars to be soldiers

The lords of their majesties’ privy council do hereby authorise and require the magistrates of Edinburgh, Canongate, Leith and whole suburbs of the same, to seize upon and commit to prison all sturdy beggars, idle vagabonds and vagrant persons who cannot give a rational account of the places of their constant residence, and way and manner of their living and how they are maintained, and to transmit their names to the clerks of council from time to time as they shall apprehend the foresaid persons, to be by the said clerks presented to the said lords of privy council that their lordships may give order for delivering such of the said persons as they shall think fit to such officers who are presently levying soldiers for their majesties’ service in Flanders as they shall appoint, to be by the said officers transported to Flanders for their majesties’ service.
