Anent The petitione given in to the Lords of his majesties privie Counsell be Maister Alexander Gwthrie minister of the Gospell Shewing that the petitioner being minister at the church of Haddam in anno Jaj vic eightie eight and some yeirs befor And haveing given obedience to the Law in praying for his present majestie King William and Qween Mary of Blessed memorie And in keeping thanksgivings as they were appointed by awthoritie did continwe in the exercise of his ministeriall fwnctione at the said church till the moneth March Jaj vic and nyntie about which tyme the petitioner was disturbed by a company of Straingers from other adjacent persones against the inclinationes of his own parishioners with whom he Lived in Love and peace And the petitioner was so farr from being Debarred from the exercise of his ministrie by the Saids Lords of privie Cownsell that upon a petitione to their Lordships in December Jaj vic and nyntie yeirs By ane act of Counsell produced with the said petitione The Saids Lords of privie Counsell Fand and Declaired that the petitioner had a right to the Stipend of the above kirk of Hoddan since his entrie to the said church And in all tyme therefter Dureing his incumbance therat And ordained him to be ansuered and payed therof With which the heretors and others of the parish did by ane attestatione prodwced with the Said petitione wnder ther hand Declaire ther Satisfactione and complyance But these Strangers being advertised of the petitioners returneing to the exercise of his ministrie Did come to the church in armes And threatned to kill the petitioner if he offered to enter to the Same soe that he was forced for fear of his life to Leave his charge And Durst never returne therto But the petitioner and and2 his familie hes bein necessitat to Live upon the charitie of others And the foirsaid kirk being Still wnprovided of a minister and the Stepend never disposed upon It is humbly conceaved that the bygone Stipends could not be bestowed to a more piows and chariteable wse then to be given to the petitioner As the lyke hes been freqwently granted to others in his circumstances Especiallie Seing the petitioner hes not only obeyed the Law in praying and keeping of Thanksgiveings and hes testified his willingnes to have Served the cure at the Said church to the hazard of his life But hes Likewayes otherwayes qwalified himself according to Law And therfore humblie craveing to the effect eftermentioned As the said petitione bears The Lords of his majesties privie Counsell haveing considered this petitione given in to them be the above Mr Alexander Gwthrie with the act of privie Counsell and attestatione of the heretors mentioned therin And produced therwith They heirby allow to the said petitioner the Stipend of Hoddam for the haill cropts and yeirs of God Jaj vic nyntie two and Jaj vic and nyntie thrie yeirs The petitioner first befor extracting heirof produceing a testificat that he hes taken the oath of alleadgeance and assureance or els takeing and Sweareing the Same befor any of the Lords of his majesties privie Counsell whom the Councell awthorizes to administer the Same to him And ordaines the said petitioner to be readiely ansuered obeyed and payed of the saids two yeirs Stipends be the heretors fewars wodsetters liferenters titulars tacksemen of teinds tenents possessors and wthers lyable in payment of the Saids Stipends And ordaines Letters of horning on fiftein dayes and others needfull to be Direct at the petitioners instance against the heretors and others foirsaids Lyable in payment of the saids two yeirs Stipends upon productione of a decreit of Localitie And in caice ther be non ordaines the heretors and wthers foirsaids to make payment to the petitioner of ther respective proportiones therof according as they Shall be determined and Decerned by the Judge ordinary which3 Act was upon the twentie third of Janwary instant Stopt upon a petitione given in be the Dwke of Qweensberrie And The Laird of Hoddam and was never extracted.

Recomendatione Mr John Cobb

Anent the petitione given in to The Lords of his majesties privie Councell be Mr John Cobb preacher of the gospell at Stronsay and Ethey in Orknay Shewing Wheras the petitioner Some moneths ago haveing come from the saids Islands of Orkney to attend the generall assemblie of this church in order to be receaved into ministeriall comunion with them was by them referred to ther Comissione And the said Comissione haveing heard the petitioner did upon the tenth current not only recommend the petitioner to the presbetry of Glasgow to preach as a probationer for some tyme in order to his ordinatione But also in regwaird the petitioners Long Journey and absence from his families and that he is still obleidged to be absent from it for a considerable tyme did humbly recommend the petitioner to the saids Lords of privie Cownsell or Lords of Thesaurie for a vaccant Stipend to defray his necessarie chargers and Subsistance for his familie in his absence as the recomendatione produced with the said petitione Doeth testifie And the churches of Thwrso and Week in Caithnes being both vaccant by the death of the incumebtns and of his majesties pratronage And at the saids Lords of privie Counsells Disposall Therfore Desyreing the saids Lords to take the premisses to ther serious consideratione And to ordaine and appoint the Stipend of aither of the saids churches for the cropt Jaj vic nyntie five yeirs to be payed to the petitioner for the ends above specified And to grant warrand for Letters and others needfull for that effect As the said petitione bears Which petitione being this day red in presence of the saids Lords of ther majesties privie Counsell And they haveing at lenth considered the Same They heirby recommend to The Lords Commissioners of his majesties Thesaurie to consider the petitione And to allow to him such a competent supplie as they shall think fitt

The following proclamatione being read and voted was approven and signed whereof the tenor follows 2 William by the Grace of God King of great Brittaine France and Ireland Defender of the Faith To, and Macers of our Privy Councill messengers at armes our Shirriffs in that part conjunctlly and severally specially constitut greeting Forasmuchas albeit the corresponding and keeping Commerse with our Enemies against quhom we are now in a state of warre is discharged by severall Laws and acts of parliament under the paine of treasone and particularlly by the eight act of the third sessione of this our Currant parliament all our subjects are expressly discharged to goe to the Kingdome of France or any of the Dominions subject to the french King after the first day of June Jaj vjc nynty and three years or being alreadie in the said Kingdome of France or Countries foresaid To stay and abyde therin after the first day of August in the said year without express Leave from us or the Lords of privie Councill under the paine of Treasone yet sundrie of our subjects presume to have Commerce and to Correspond and keep intelligence with persones resideing in the said Kingdome of France now in a state of war with us or Dominions therto belonging without authority foresaid Therfore to the effect our subjects may know their Danger in the premisses if they shall for hereafter transgress in maner foresaid We with advyse of the Lords of our privie Councill doe Hereby strictly prohibite and discharge all and every one of our subjects within this our ancient Kingdome to correspond keep intelligence or have any Commerce whatsomever with the said Kingdome of France or persones resideing within the same or dominions belonging to the French King without authority foresaid under the pain of being punished as Corresponders with Declared Trators to the outmost Rigour Declareing hereby that it shall be without prejudice of any former acts made anent treasone or treasonable correspondencies or the punishment of such as have alreadie incurred the pains therof our will is herefore and we Charge you strictly and Command That incontinent thir our Letters seen ye pass to the marcat Cross of Edinburgh and remanent marcat Crosses of the head burghs of the severall shyres and stueartries within this our Kingdome And there in our name and authority by open proclamatione make intimatione hereof That none may pretend ignorance Given under our Signet at Edinburgh the tuenty first day of Januarie and of our Reigne the seventh year Jaj vjc nynty and sex years sic subscribitur Tweddale Cancell Southerland Forfar Carmichaell Polwarth Adam Cockburne Archibald Murray Robert Sinclair W Burnet John Maxwell T Livingstoune

The Lords of his Majesties privy Councill in obedience to his majesties Letter direct to them of the date the fyfteenth day of Januarie Jaj vjc nynty and sex years Doe Hereby take of all restraint and confynement put upon Sir William Bruce of Kinross and Declairs him free thereof In respect the said Sir William hes given bond and found sufficient Cautione acted in the books of privy Councill That He should live peaceablie under the Government of his Majestie King William and that He shall appeare before the said Lords of his majesties privy Councill whensoever he shall be requyred therto under the penalty of fyve Hundred pound sterling in Case He shall transgress in any part of the premisses and upon granting the foresaid bond ordaines the former bonds granted by the said Sir William and his Cautioners to be delyvered up

The Lords of his majesties privy Councill in obedience to his Majesties Letter direct to them of the date the fyfteenth day of January Jaj vjc nynty and sex years Doe Hereby take of all Confynement and restraint lyeing upon George Duke of Gordone and declair’s him free thereof In respect the said Duke hes given bond and found sufficient Cautione acted in the books of his Majesties privy Councill That he shall Live peaceablie under the Government of his majestie King William And that he shall appear before the said Lords of his Majesties privy Councill when called for and that He shall not goe further north then the River of Tay under the penalty of two thousand pound sterling money in case his grace shall transgress in any part of the premisses And ordain’s (upon granting the foresaid bond) the Bonds formerly granted by the said Duke and his Cautioners to be delyvered up
