Proclamation anent the Excyse
Proclamation anent the Excvyse Read, voted, approve, signed, and ordered to be recorded, published and printed, wherof the tenor follows.
Anne by the Grace of God Queen of great Brittanie, France and Irland defender of the faith To […] Meacers of our privie Counsell, messengers att armes our Shirreffs in that pairt Conjunctllie and Severallie Speciallie constitut Greeting; Forasmuch as the Lords of our Theasaury by their Commission, dated the twentie fyfth day of February Last by past, Have granted full power warrand and Commission to Mr William Johnstoun of Sheens and John Wakinshaw of that Ilk, present principall tacksmen of the Inland Excyse, To Collect and Ingather the said Inland Excyse, of all ale, beer and aquavitie browen to be vended and sold within this kingdome, and of all ale, strong waters, and forraigne brandy Imported thereunto for the moneths of March instant and Apryll nixt to come, and to Subsett the Same to the best advantage, and to doe every other thing that any other tacksmen heirtofore have been in use to doe as the said Commission bears; Therfor wee with advyce of the Lords of our privie Counsell for the more effectuall inbringing and Subsetting of the said Excyse, Doe heirby Ratifie and approve of the proclamation In favours of the said Mr William Johnstoun dated the Twentie eight day of Apryll Jaj vijc and four years, as to the haill clauses therin, and respective penalties therin specified Our Will is Heirfore, and wee charge yow Straitly and Command that incontinent these our Letters seen ye pass to the mercat Cross of Edinburgh, and remanent mercat Croses of the head burghs of the severall shyres and stewartries within this kingdome, and there in our name and authoritie by open proclamation make publict Intimation heirof, that non pretend ignorance, And ordains printed coppies heirof to be sent to the shirreffs of the severall shyres, and steuarts of the severall steuartries within this kingdome, whom and their Clerks, wee ordaine to see the samen published, and coppies heirof affixt at the said mercat crosses, and appoynts them to find doubles therof to all the ministers both in Churches and meeting houses within their respective Jurisdictions that the samen may be Intimat and read in every parish Church and meeting house, and coopies therof affixt upon the most publict doors therof the first Lords day after the same comes to their hand; and ordains these presents to be printed. Given under our Signet att Edinburgh the twenty eight day of March, and of our reigne the Sixth year 1707. Sic Subscribitur Queensberrie Commissioner, Seafeild Cancellar. Montrose P. Loudoun S.
