Commission to William Hay to be Livetennant of the Royall Mary

The Lords of her Majesties privie Councell Doe heirby Constitut and Appoynt yow William Hay To be Livetennant of her Majesties Ship the Royall Mary, Willing and Requyreing yow to take upon yow the Charge and Comand of Livetennant wnder the Captain of the Said Shipe, Strictly Comanding and Chargeing all the Inferior Officers, Seamen and Souldiers belonging to the said Shipe to behave themselves Joyntly and Severallie In their respective Stations and Imployments with all due respect and obedience to yow ther said Livetennant And yow lykewayes to execute and observe in absence of the Captain all orders and instructions that Shall be imediatly direct to yow by the saids Lords of Privie Councell attested by ther Clerk from tyme to tyme, or any orders to be given yow by her Majestie or your said Captain or any other your Superior Officers for her Majesties Service, And her Majestie being now ingaged in warr with the French King and King of Spain, and ther adherents, The Saids Lords of Privie Councell heirby give yow further power and Commission, not only to defend against But to attack these her Majesties enemyes, And with all your force to Subdue them, ther Ships and goods to be declaired Lawfull pryze, wherin yow nor non of yow are to faill, as yow will answer to the contrary at your perrill; And for so doeing these presents (being recorded in the books of privie Councell, and to continue till recalled) Shall be your Sufficient warrand; Given by warrand and wnder the Signet of Privie Councell of Scotland att Edinburgh the twelfth day of March Jaj vijc and Six years Sic Subscribitur Craufurd. Commission to William Hay to be lieutenant of the Royal Mary

The lords of her majesty’s privy council do hereby constitute and appoint you, William Hay, to be lieutenant of her majesty’s ship the Royal Mary, willing and requiring you to take upon you the charge and command of lieutenant under the captain of the said ship, strictly commanding and charging all the inferior officers, seamen and soldiers belonging to the said ship to behave themselves jointly and severally in their respective stations and employments with all due respect and obedience to you their said lieutenant. And you likewise [are] to execute and observe in absence of the captain all orders and instructions that shall be immediately directed to you by the said lords of privy council attested by their clerk from time to time, or any orders to be given you by her majesty or your said captain or any other your superior officers for her majesty’s service. And her majesty being now engaged in war with the French king and king of Spain and their adherents, the said lords of privy council hereby give you further power and commission, not only to defend against but to attack these her Majesties enemies, and with all your force to subdue them, their ships and goods to be declared lawful prize, wherein you nor none of you are to fail, as you will answer to the contrary at your peril. And for so doing these present (being recorded in the books of privy council, and to continue till recalled) shall be your sufficient warrant.
