Proclamation for a Nationall fast
Proclamation appoynting a Solemn Nationall fast Read, voted and approven, Signed and ordered to be recorded, wherof the tenor follows.
Anne by the Grace of God Queen of Great Brittaine, France and Irland defender of the faith, To […] Meacers of our Privie Councell, Messengers at arms, our Shirreffs in that pairt Conjunctllie and Severallie Speciallie constitut Greeting, Forasmuch as wee takeing to our Serious consideration the many causes ther are for appoynting a day for publict fasting and humiliation for prayers and Supplications to be made to Allmightie God throughout this kingdome, both by reasone of abounding Sins and provocations, And for imploreing and obtaineing the favour and blessing of God wpon ws, our Councells and forces both by Sea and Land, for the preservation of the true protestant Religion, And of these our dominions and the defence of all the Churches of Chryst, and Liberties of Europe, And that the Generall Assembly of this Church have appoynted a Generall fast to be keept for the above mentioned causes and other reasons contained in ther Act, And have made application to our privie Councell for interposeing of our authoritie and Supplication to Almightie God to be Solemnly and Generally observed through out this Kingdome on the dayes following Viz The Twentie third day of May nixt on this Syde the river of Tay, and the Sixth day of June therafter on the other syde of Tay, Strictly heirby Commanding all Ministers and others concerned that they be carefull of the observance of the premisses wnder the certifications Contained in the former proclamations for Generall fasts, which are heir held as repeated Our Will is Heirfore that ye pass and make publict proclamation of this our pleasure att the mercat Cross of Edinburgh, And all other places needfull, and that these presents with the forsaid Act of the Generall Assembly be printed and published, and that our Solicitor transmitt and disperse printed Coppies therof to all Ministers and others concerned in the usuall maner That non pretend ignorance, Given wnder our Signet at Edinburgh the Sevinteenth day of Apryll, And of our reigne the Fyfth year 1706.
