Letter from the Queen to the Councell for Reduceing the forces

Letter from the Queens Majestie to the Councell for makeing some reducements in the forces in order for the provision of a Companie of foot ordered to be raised and placed as a Garison in the Castell of Blackness, Read and ordered to be recorded. wherof the tenor follows.

Right trustie and right well beloved Cousine and Councellor, Right trustie and intirely beloved Cousins and Councellors, Right trustie and well beloved Cousins and Councellors, Right trustie and well beloved Councellors, and trustie and well beloved Councellors, Wee Greet yow well, Wheras for makeing provision for the Companie of foot, which wee have now ordered to be raised and placed as a Garison in our Castell of Blackness, Wee have thought fitt to make the following reducements in our forces in that our Kingdome, It is therfor our will and pleasure, And wee heirby authorize and requyre yow that yow give the necessary orders to the Commander in Chiefe of our forces ther, for reduceing one man out of each Company of our Three Redgments of foot Commanded by Major Generall Maitland, The Laird of Grant younger, and the Lord Strathnaver, And one man out of each troup of our two Regments of Dragouns Commanded by the Marques of Lothian, and the Lord Carmichaell; And lyke wayes that yow reduce the present Garison of the said Castle Settled by the Last establishment, For doeing wherof this Shall be your warrand; So wee bidd yow heartily farwell, Given att our Court at Windsor Castle the Threttie one day of May Jaj vijc and Six, And of our reigne the Fyfth year, By her Majesties Command Sic Subscribitur Mar.

Letter from the queen’s majesty to the council for making some reductions in the forces in order for the provision of a company of foot ordered to be raised and placed as a garrison in the castle of Blackness read and ordered to be recorded. Whereof the tenor follows.

Right trusty and right well beloved cousin and councillor, right trusty and entirely beloved cousins and councillors, right trusty and well beloved cousins and councillors, right trusty and well beloved councillors, and trusty and well beloved councillors, we greet you well. Whereas for making provision for the company of foot, which we have now ordered to be raised and placed as a garrison in our castle of Blackness, we have thought fit to make the following reductions in our forces in that our kingdom. It is therefore our will and pleasure, and we hereby authorise and require you, that you give the necessary orders to [David Melville, earl of Leven] the commander in chief of our forces there, for reducing one man out of each company of our three regiments of foot commanded by Major General [James] Maitland, [Alexander] the laird of Grant younger, and [William Gordon] the Lord Strathnaver, and one man out of each troop of our two regiments of dragoons commanded by [William Kerr] the marquis of Lothian and [James] the Lord Carmichael. And likewise that you reduce the present garrison of the said castle settled by the last establishment. For doing whereof this shall be your warrant. So we bid you heartily farewell.
