Order

[Order to receive French prisoners]

The Lords of her Majesties privie Councell Doe heirby Command and Ordaine Collonell Corbett furthwith to order a partie of her Majesties forces to repair to Greenock, and ther receive from Captain Matthew Campbell Comander of her Majesties Ship the Dumbarton Castle, The Captain, Livetennants and Crew of a French Privateer lately taken by the said Captain, Amounting to the number of Sevintie persons, and to transport them prisoners to the burgh of Glasgow, And ordains the Magistrats of Glasgow to receive them, and to keep and detaine the said Crew prisoners in ther Tollbooth till further orders of Councell, And allows the saids Magistrats to grant the Captain and his two Livetennants the liberty of the Town of Glasgow, wpon their paroll of honour, not to remove from the said burgh, without the Councells leave, And appoynts the saids prisoners to be alimented as follows viz The Captain at twelve Shilling Scots per day, the two Livetennants at Six Shilling Scots each per day, and each of the rest of the Crew att three Shilling Scots per day, And Recommends to the Lords Commissioners of her Majesties Theasaury, to order the said aliment to be punctuallie payed accordingly.

The lords of her majesty’s privy council do hereby command and ordain Colonel Corbett forthwith to order a party of her majesty’s forces to repair to Greenock, and there receive from Captain Matthew Campbell, commander of her majesty’s ship the Dumbarton Castle, the captain, lieutenants, and crew of a French privateer lately taken by the said captain, amounting to the number of seventeenth persons, and to transport them prisoners to the burgh of Glasgow. And ordain the magistrates of Glasgow to receive them, and to keep and detain the said crew prisoners in their tolbooth till further orders of council. And allows the said magistrates to grant the captain and his two lieutenants the liberty of the town of Glasgow, upon their parole of honour not to remove from the said burgh, without the council’s leave. And appoint the said prisoners to be alimented as follows viz the captain at 12s Scots per day, the two lieutenants at 6s Scots each per day, and each of the rest of the crew at 3s Scots per day. And recommend to the lord commissioners of her majesty’s treasury to order the said aliment to be punctually paid accordingly.
